I use mine exclusively to fish warm water backwaters for carp and bass. If I’m out further in cold or big water, I’d rather be in my kayak or zodiac. I think of it as using the right tool for the task at hand.

Definitely, I have built a rod on a 10’ 5wt blank that I use to bead fish for trout and char. Also I have a few small 3.5” to 4” reels both bearing and bushing that get put on the rod. It’s a joy to use and In situations it is definitely more effective than fly fishing an indicator rig.

You can target any thing with the centerpin but it excels at trotting in rivers and streams. Meaning float fishing with bait or artificial in current. Kind of like the euro equivalent of indicator nymphing, to put it in fly fishing terms.

I like my sage dart or if you can find and old Sage LL. Try them and see if they suite your style. I like the dart because it is a 2wt but is not a wet noodle , it has a crisp feel to it. Makes for an accurate little rod.

I have a good supply of both click and discdrag reels. I tend to have my small trout reels or two handed rods as click pawls and salt water and 6wt+ reels as dis drag. I just think a good reel is a good reel either one works neither is better.

These are what all sinking lines were before density compensated lines came out. They worked back then , I’m sure they will work now. But there was a good reason we all switched to the new straight sink lines.

I really like the New Zealand wool indicators. They are very non intrusive and very sensitive. Great for smooth slick water and wary trout. Otherwise I’m liking the oros indicators they are super easy on and off, and tend to hold up a decent amount of weight for their size.

I usually have an indicator rod, full sink 3, intermediate and a full sink 7. So at the least 4 rods and if there is any possibility of dry fishing I’ll bring that one to make it 5.
