Awesome! What is that underbody made from?

Bend area in middle of October (updated with trip report)

I heard that my favorite access, Cinder Hill Campground, was closing last weekend unfortunately.

#12 beetle. Maybe add an emerger callibaetis as a dropper on top, or a small bloodworm a couple feet down. This brown wanted the beetle a couple weeks ago.

    Pinching Myself - Again

Absolutely! It's at the Maltby Grange, located about 1/2 mile north of Maltby Cafe. Very down to earth vibe. Great practice for playing by ear and by watching the chord changes used by others in the circle. Its pretty uneven quality, but some songs can really soar and some jammers are...

    Pinching Myself - Again

I've heard the Greenlakers moved their jam back indoors for the season. If you want a jam that's more bluegrassy, Maltby has their 1st Saturday of the month jam this coming Saturday. Gets rolling around 1:30pm, and I usually jam until 3:30 or 4pm. I think the jam rolls until 5pm, then they...

    Pinching Myself - Again

Cliff, I am still so very glad you were the one to pick up those two sweet casting rods. Things all worked out on my end too, the sales helped me justify canceling the consignment I had for my rare, amazing acoustic guitar. It is now back in my hands and making as good music as I'm capable of...

Fly Lines (all new or nearly new)

I've collected a lot of gear over the years and it's time to find new homes for some of it. All the lines are either new in box or lawn cast a few times at most. All lines priced at $25, cash, picked up in Bothell/Mill Creek. Please add $15 for shipping and I'm happy to combine lines into a...

Bend area in middle of October (updated with trip report)

I was on East Lake three non-consecutive days during a 10 day visit to Central Oregon early Oct 2024. I caught good sized rainbows all three days, but only caught browns one day...the one day it was cloudy with threatening rain. That's just my one experience, but maybe something to think...

    What size is your beetle?

Ha! I think I will design my own beetle fly (as if I could actually make something original- not!) and will name it “Super Beetle” after my car from college days. It will be funky, cool and will get me where I want to go!

    What size is your beetle?

My son drove up and met me at Sunriver last week. We had a free hour and hit East Lake, but left the tubes in the car and walked along the shoreline up to the large rock cliff where we cast a couple beetles. No luck for me, but my son picked up a nice brown. Love those beetles!

    Bamboo in Jackson Hole

Awesome trip, but I’m really really thankful to hear your griz encounter did not turn bad.

    What size is your beetle?

I’ve been fishing Central Oregon lakes for a few years now and am becoming a big fan of the beetle dry fly. I’d never fished a beetle in over 40 years of fly fishing and am on a learning curve. For those who fish beetles, what size do you prefer? And a follow up question, do you ties legs...

    Lost vest at East Lake

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately I drove back there the next morning and did talk to the campground host and he hadn’t seen it.

    Lost vest at East Lake

I left my tan fly fishing vest in the parking lot of the north boat ramp of Cinder Hill Campground, East Lake, Central OR. On Wed the 17th. Just in case someone found it and would be willing to return it. Ron

    Vintage Hardy

Cliff, If I was on the hunt for a cool reel to use with those rods, I might cast a wider net by posting in the Classic Rod Forum's classifieds section a "Want to Buy" describing what you are looking for, either specifically or generally. I've used that a couple times over the years and was...

Finally got out and fished some bamboo I picked up.

FWIW, I’ve heard that hollowing the cane tends to make the rod feel faster and stiffer, and that a good hollow build will have a taper that offsets this effect. I once had a blank made by a well known budget maker from Oregon who gave me the option of having it hollow built but without any...

Finally got out and fished some bamboo I picked up.

I have that exact same Iwana, it was my compensation for doing some photography for Shane Gray a couple years ago. I use it for my 4 weight line. The West Fork has a couple spots where it’s possible to pick up a cutt over 16” or longer. But access is somewhat challenging. On the East...

Swap Hardy pawls into a Leland Classic Drift fly reel?

Does anyone on this board have experience with swapping Hardy pawls into other click and pawl fly reels? I have a couple Leland Co. Classic Drift fly reels, and they are very classic looking on my bamboo rods. I'd rate their construction quality about an 8 or 9 out of 10. They don't match the...
