Whew. I looked at the whole thing. I am looking forward to umbrellas. I live where it rains hard. Inches per hour events are frequent enough no one even pays attention.

Packing for a day of smallmouth fishing near Patterson. Heard the eruption but didn't understand what it was until hours later when someone stopped and told us. We could see the ash cloud but assumed it was a storm.

My first thought was the water clarity was not great, perhaps a bloom in progress. Often blooms can be stratified by depth because of light limitations providing a darker and clearer environment below it. And the insects have to be coming up from the bottom. I would start deep with something...

Reduce the booze, beer especially. Salads, fish and start walking. In 6 months dropped 150 on TG, dropped bloop pressure into the low zone.

I once made a trip to Lake Roosevelt. Looking for walleye, trout and smallmouths. Got the boat in, and started to rig fly rods and....no reels. I had left the bag with the reels sitting in the hallway 4 hours away. Easy to do.

I fish nearby where you will be at. I use a weighted crab type fly (or something like a shad jig) and work the outflows where the return flows breach the sand bar. Bring a stripping basket. And I use a high density line as it feels easier to control in the surf.

I fished at Sprit Lake once in 1976, late summer. What was amazing to me was the amount of floating pumice in the lake. Nice rainbows.

I'm happy to see this post again. One of my favorites.
