    Got any bird pics?

Finally got a couple Kingfisher pics. Crappy long distance cell shots, but at least not the usual blurry blue flash. Some good high water fishing technique here working a slow, shallow inside bend.

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

No pics but finally tried nettles. I was a bit skeptical, especially after being stung through nitrile gloves. Sautéed until fully wilted in hot oil with salt and pepper. Looked like wilted spinach and didnt sting. Taste was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting something bitter, or maybe...

    Got any bird pics?

Thanks Steve. Minus the pipit, I think that would put us somewhere around 43 species, but really need to do a better job of keeping track. Edit: Holy crap! Just updated my old, pre-Merlin list and looks like we broke the 50 mark (good luck reading my chicken scratch).

    Got any bird pics?

Only ran into a gang one time on the river bank. Couple dozen flitting through a patch of knotweed. Other than that, I rarely see them even though Merlin picks them up more times than not.

    Got any bird pics?

Bird activity has picked up sharply here in SWW lately. I was going through previous Merlin records after adding a couple new. The count is growing but really wondering now about some of the "unlikely" ID's. Especially the repeating ones like the Yellow Rumped Warbler. Other red dot include...

    What Are You Eating?

Something quick/easy for dinner after a 12hr day. Patagonia red prawns in hot cast iron with garlic and olive oil. On spaghetti with Nori flakes. I'm making this again.

    What's in your vise?

Just happened to watch that this weekend. Had no idea bucktail could be such a precision tying material. Still mostly a synthetic junky for large saltwater stuff, but this inspires me to mess around with BT more. The only thing I'm not nuts about with these patterns is the bulbous/rounded...

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

A few oysters starting to pop. Mostly tiny but glad I checked the log today cuz this one is primo... ... and it was tasty. Really looking forward to a legit flush of these.

    Invasive Species Concerns

Just a guess, but I would think an Isopropyl alcohol based solution would work reasonably well, then evaporate without damaging boots/waders, or leaving toxic residue like bleach would.

The Mountain Whitefish, aka Short Fin Grayling thread

Super useful and timely info. I fished the same spot 4 times last week trying different flies and rigs with zero WF hooked and only the vaguest possible taps. Until you posted this I figured they just moved on. Now I'm not so sure. The last time I put 20' of straight 4lb mono on the 4wt...

    What's in your vise?

Something smaller/sparser for the low/clear water we've had. And now its raining hard. So much for that idea.

That would be just my luck. Probably a super pissed 3-salt buck.

    Coulda happened ..

@Matt B was passing through the hood and braved driving his Prius up "Banjo Holler Lane" to visit and check out the crick. First time I've had company down there. Major improvement to the usual conversations with myself. We didnt have a ton of time so wadered up and slid down hill. Chances...
