Boat + hike lakes in western WA?

Oh, sweet! I had talked myself into there not being a launch. That might be the ticket

Boat + hike lakes in western WA?

Any good options out there an hour or so from Tacoma for a bit of a triathlon (row, fish, hike)? My wife and I both have Friday off and are looking for something that allows for all three. I imagine prospects for this type of lake don’t really open open til you get out further east but figured...

    Cedar River

Olive sculpzilla gave me my best SRC session in a few years Saturday morning. It’s a sculpy time of year.

Oh good. Time to light some candles and draw myself a bath.

Can we have a blue gill thread?

Took the wife and toddlers out in the boat today. It was mostly a shitshow but we did catch this fish, which acquitted itself well even with half its tail missing.

SFR Oregon Water shortage (NY Times)

Yeah, we’ve got one big driftboat in the flotilla, so per the DNR guidance our floor is 1200 cfs. Unless we get a last minute inch of rain I don’t think we’re hitting that. I know some will run it in a drift boat a little below the DNR recommended 1200 cfs, but we’ll probably stick to the guidance.

SFR Oregon Water shortage (NY Times)

Supposed to float the JD end of May - start of June. The NOAA water prediction center is showing around a 10% chance of drift boatable levels. Not looking good ( not that my recreation matters much in the grand scheme of this conversation).

    Spill your curry secrets

I aspire to cook restaurant-grade curries of the basic varieties - tikka masala, butter chicken, your basic Thai red and green. I say aspire because there is still a sizeable gap between expectations and results. I’ve gotten a lot better, but there’s still a je ne sais quoi missing. What I’ve...

    Coffee talk

I’m excited to turn over a new leaf, I’ve been blindly rotary grinding for too long. Too bad I missed out on inheriting yours, I’d have even traded you some fly mags and a stickered up nalgene for it!

Ok, I’ve been pushed over the edge. New burr grinder on the way. I’ll report back.

    Coffee talk

I think you’re exactly the guy I should be talking to. I’m with you on thinking the tasting notes are forever out of my league, but at the same time I have semi-strong preferences that I have a hard time articulating to myself. The three immediate things I could plagiarize from you other than...

    Coffee talk

I’m a year or two into my coffee roasting journey. I’m using a fairly inexpensive small batch home roasting setup the brand of which I can’t recall without getting off my ass and going to the garage. My coffee is consistently adequate to good. I wouldn’t say I’m ever surprised or blown away by...

    High Lakes

Comfort aside, hiking in your waders is a good way to wear them out years before their time.

    NFR RIP Capt Insano Emeritis

RIP. He was a distinctive voice here. Looking at the garden thread, looks like he got a lot of plants in the ground before he went. Hope his family can continue enjoying the produce and memories all season.
