Ya I think the coho run was substantially smaller than the last few years. Coho on the snoho were done by December. 2024 I was finding them into late december. A decade ago, i cought them semi regularly well into february.
The wdfw sure doesnt seem to think the SF fish are north fork origin...

With that logic, there should be no bow or muzzleloader seasons either.
Selective seasons/areas are a way to manage a shared resource. Handicapping people who want to use the resource helps limit impacts. Its that simple.
So I don't gear fish a ton these days but im still using an old loomis GL2 baitcaster and a couple of fenniglas spinning rods. I found upgrading the reel on my baitcaster made the biggest difference for me (a 90s Shimano curado to a 2020s curado).
I feel like fishing reels wear out...
