    Chironomid Starting Lineup

like @Mossback. Chromie, black, red, damsel. Early spring I usually go with a simple pine Squirrel gloater style leech a foot off the bottom. Been playing around with a green/red butt for a few season that's showed good promise. Blood worms move up the depth chart quickly when I see red in a...

SFR Mt St Helens - 45 Year Anniversary

I was 10 as well. What a sight that mushroom cloud was. My wife was driving up from Oregon with her famliy and was one of the last cars to cross the Toutle at I-5 before it was closed. I imagine her dad was white knuckling that drive.

    Mid July Central Oregon

My parents are in Redmond and I'm headed there middle of June to hit the lakes. In July I would spend a day at the D above Billy Chinook (rough hiking over the volcanic rock scree areas), Crooked, Met and Fall (super easy wading) rivers to see which one was fishing better. The little D between...

    Non-Fly Puget Sound Lingcod

Public service on how to and not to hold a Ling. Obviously most of you already know this. I was informed on the proper grab but I have always been partial to learning things the hard way @Irafly Yes! @Yardus No!!! Notice the blood running down my left hand. It's not the Lings.

    Mix Bag

Spent Sunday in the Olympia area Sunday with @Irafly at a mixed bag lake. Had to really work form them. Most came on chironomids, Jig leaches and boobies. Bite was good first thing and had to work to scatch-em out the rest of the day. We each picked up a brood stock around 5#s. Here is some...

problems with my Fishing Buddy depth finder: - any input appreciated

Portable, yes. single unit, no. you have the display, battery and transducer. Bought a 2nd transducer for the PT and float tube and a tiny nocqua battery to power it. The transducer and display mount via a strap that is easy to attach both. Battery sits in the tube pouch.

problems with my Fishing Buddy depth finder: - any input appreciated

Billy talked me into a Garmin Striker 4 last year. Will never go back. The thing is far more accurate than the fishing buddy.

problems with my Fishing Buddy depth finder: - any input appreciated

I had to replace the battery wiring on mine. The plastic was cracking and exposed the copper.

    Chironomid Tying

@Cabezon I like your thought process on how you set up your multi fly rigs. When nymphing rivers I have the same approach. Point fly gets you to the depth and the trailer(s) drift more naturally. On lakes though I usually go the with the opposite approach. Top fly(s) are mostly unweighted with...

    Pay to play lakes??

Stayed at Horseshoe with a small group (5) a couple of times 20+ years ago. Fishing was good for rainbows to 6lbs and native brookies to 20”. It had a feeder on it at the time. Lodge is nice with a hot tub to soak sore arms. Used to be really inexpensive to stay there for a week...

    First WA trout!

Nice work! 🥳 Second the Hot Hands in a pinch. Cheap battery operated socks can make early season tubing much more enjoyable ($30-60). Don't get them wet though ;)

    Just over a month out...

What a beautiful day Saturday was! Bright sun with a lite chop on the water. It's always a good time fishing with @Irafly and @troutpocket. Nothing like catching fish after fish all day and finishing a very distant 2nd place on the leader board. It can be a humbling sight watching those two...

    Teach me to Fish Chironomids?

Public service announcement - Get your eyes checked if you find indicator fishing boring. I'm sure this goes without saying, but being able to see distance clearly can make a huge difference. I've been fishing indicators for roughly 35 years, and it recently started to feel like it was...

    SFR Poconos Pond Rehab

Is it possible to divert the inflow around the pond? I would think you could pump it down, rent an excavator and hog the thing out in a couple of days. That way you could dig some deep runs on one side, contour some different subsurface areas and be done with it in a jiffy.
