    What's in your vise?

Oh man that's a tasty looking damsel nymph! At least I'm assuming that's a damsel fly. Should be a great searcher pattern as well!

NFR Superb Owl 2026: Seahawks vs Patriots (official thread)

Couple rib racks for the game. Tried to time them for the 3:30 kick off but we were done eating just at as they did the coin flip. Will hit the 2nd rack at halftime!

    What's in your vise?

Nice. This one has always been one of my favorites. Years ago I came up with a slight variation that used fluorescent red floss over a silver tinsel base to really pop, and added some hot pink Krystal flash, I called it the “Runaway Coal Car” and it caught a few Grand Ronde fish. Your version...

    Turle Knot

I use the version that John Hazel demonstrates in his Steelhead fishing video. Not sure if that’s the real Turle but it’s pretty simple and once I saw it I started using it all the time. Until I learned the non-slip mono loop and now I use that.

Wanted Starter Set-up for 18 YO

Was going to say the same thing. Maybe upgrade the flyline that comes with it, but both the rod and reel in the Lift kit are solid.

    Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone here on PNWFF! While I’ve not actually met most of you in person, this virtual community has brought me a wealth of fraternity and fellowship on an almost daily basis. While I don’t post as much as some do, without fail, the gentlemen (and...

Nymphing and Dry Fly General Purpose Trout Fly Rod

I'd second this. I once was told to stick to the even weights (4, 6, 8) or the odd weights (5, 7, 9) when first building your rod arsenal. Believe me you will fill in the blanks later if you're like most of us :D The Redington CT is tough to beat. My only other recommendation for a trout...

    Classic reel recommendations (3/4wt)

Yes! The LP Lite ones are true spring pawls, whereas the LPs are a disc drag with a clicker noise maker. Both great reels but the Lite is probably what you’re after.

Annual favorite fish of the year thread.

I didn't catch a lot this year, a few on the yak and a few in MT. I think I've even been skunked on anadromous fish this year (so far). But I had a good week in Winthrop thanks to some guidance and intel from one of our still water masters @Starman77 . I was able to get a few on Rex's water...

A new world record... my favorite driving band

Long ago I bought the CD soundtrack to The Good The Bad and the Ugly movie and kept in the the car for road trips. A few times when going to fish the Grand Ronde I would cue up this track once I got about half way down the Hwy 123 Rattlesnake grade. It was perfect for scenery and the building...

You can still listen to them at: https://robinandmaynard.net/ They have a ton off material, including the Roy Otis educational film strips.

Get some "Seattle's Best Rock" stickers at the Squire Shop with a new pair of Brittania jeans, then listen to Robin and Maynard on the drive home. Good times.

Fly Lines for Switch rods ?

Years ago I built a Rainshadow 6wt / 10'8" that cast wonderfully with an 8 weight Rio Oubound. I took it out on a lark not expecting it to work but it was just bombing the line out there. (I believe it was the older 37' OB not the OBS.) With that set up I was able to teach myself to do all...

    Puget Sound

Someone showed me that trick at Chico many years ago and it does work! I related it in a thread last year here and everyone said I was crazy and that the fish would bite the rod tip off. But that’s never happened.
