Very Memorable Experiences in your Life

I started working on a Incident Management Team in 1986. As other local, state, and Federal agencies were trained in ICS response to emergencies got a lot more professional. It was interesting watching agencies that were a pain in the butt to work with, become good partners as they got the...

Very Memorable Experiences in your Life

I don't think it was memorable, but definitely the most important day in my life. I thought I wanted to be an astronomer, but in my freshman year in first quarter Calculus, that dream quickly fell apart. I was talking to my college adviser and she said "you need to declare a new major". I...

    Starlink User Opinions

Not to hijack the thread, but all the military's in the world missed the usefulness of satellite internet. The Russians, Chinese, and DOW are currently scrambling to deploy their own "StarLink" like networks. Don't know how DARPA missed that one.

    Starlink User Opinions

Not to defend Elon. But the point of StarLink is to finance his trip to Mars. That is the priority for him. They did have a waiting list. I had to wait six months to get service. But some folks wanted StarLink, no matter the cost. Hence, the fee. I really did appreciate that they limited...

    Starlink User Opinions

I bought it for my off grid house outside of Wenatchee when it first became available. It just works. I don't think you will have any issues using it with your devices. Even if you use them all at once. I bought it for the wifi calling on the cell phone. That works great. The ice melt...

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

If you like Black Humor.....I am reading Applebaum's book on the Holodomor. Here is a Ukrainian joke from the 1933. A pessimist is someone that believes things could not get worse. An optimist is someone that believes yes, things can get worse.

    NFR PSA: Bears are active.

Hiking in the foothills of Wenatchee a few days ago. Not sure why the guy above was so pissed. Maybe stepping on a rattlesnake is not such a good idea. Oh well, at least he wasn't trying to get onto my float tube while I was fishing. I like bears. We have had a female bear in our...

    Rain

It rained from 10 to two in the morning in Wenatchee. Got some thunder and lightning. Couple of fires around Brewster. Oh that rainfall broke the record for rainfall for both days. It rained enough before midnight to break that record and then after midnight for the next day.

    SFR Sears, Roebuck and Co

from the 1952 Hunting and Fishing Guide......the good old days were not that good unless you lived in King County. Chopaka Lake.....Road impassable for cars. Fish apparently freeze out in cold winters as no fish hve been caught recently although stocked several times. Moccasin Lake....No...

    Grayling in a Stillwater setting

Way back in the 70's I caught the Idaho state record grayling. Unfortunately, I ate it before calling the state to see if was a record!! There were really easy to catch on any fly. Don't bother eating them. But do check the state records before you go fishing. At the time the Idaho...

    Hunting Beginner Question

I believe the ONLY no shooting zone in Chelan County is at Camas Meadows Natural Area Preserve. I have a house there. Looking at the Washington state regulations for Natural Area Preserves you cannot use a bow to hunt there. You need a permit from DNR to access the site the public property...

NFR TICKS - The Threat Grows

The losing of 3 billion birds is a problem in its own right. 30 years ago, the Forest Service internally was looking at the decline in Neo-tropical birds. However, I suspect the increase tick population has more to do with the exponential increase in deer populations back east. Out West...

NFR TICKS - The Threat Grows

The Columbia basin is tick center for the world. I was hiking into Bobby's Pond (next to Nunnally) about four decades ago and as I passed a sage bush, I noticed it was moving. I thought it was moving in the wind, but it was totally covered in ticks that were moving. Between the dogs and...

Catching a unicorn & DFL late report

Your good old days, were not as good as my good old days. That is the problem. Every generation doesn't realize what slipped away in previous generations. I quit fishing Lenice 30 years ago when in my estimation the fishing had gone down hill and I was waiting on a rehab that still has not...

Experiment in removing stunted brookies from Skagit County's Little Gee Lake

The question is the pond a research study or a fishery? The point is to see if you can eliminate stunted brookies from Wilderness lakes. Finish the study and then restock the lake with STERILE triploid brookies.

Experiment in removing stunted brookies from Skagit County's Little Gee Lake

Two classes in fisheries does not make me an expert..... IMO, YY brookie fry have no survival advantage over the fish in the lake. They might be at a disadvantage compared to the brookies in the pond that are larger than them. 500 is a real small number. The department has stopped stocking...
