NFR Any actual good online "black friday" or "cyber monday" deals you found?

One of the first things I did with my cordless drill was make adaptors to quick-chill bottles and cans by spinning them in an ice bath. Just 2 minutes for a cold one. It one way to leverage your purchase into a “good experience”

    Support Your Local Fly Shop

It’s been years (unfortunately) since myself or many of my friends have stepped into our local shop. This includes several guides and deeply embedded locals. Note to shop owners: maybe be less blatantly partisan with customers, and consider supporting at least some fish/water conservation...

    On line supplies?

fwiw, they likely don’t have everything stocked in the store, but they get shipments daily from Hareline and so are able to fulfill most orders without delay. I end up ordering from them at times because they don’t stock items when I’m there in person.

    NBA..

I wonder how long it will take the Clippers to figure out how to improve with Harden? The 76ers seemed to benefit immediately after unloading him.

Statistically (location, time of year, run size) it was likely a coho. Cutts can be anywhere in the system that they can access.

    Salt water pliers

Been using that Gerber for decades, and they are without question disposable rust-buckets. However, I often drop mine in a river before they lock up from rust

    NFR Government shutdown

I know some federal employees are scrambling right now to gather all the stuff they need to work at home (illegally, without pay) when they get furloughed … just because there’s work to be done, with a conscience, no matter what stupidity occurs in DC. Folks who think this is a paid vacation...

    NFR Ween

Ween opened for my band ca. 1988, just Gene and Dean and a drum machine. As a drummer, I really dislike like drum machines (outside of more dancey music / hip hop) and wrote them off for years. It took a long time for me to shake that initial bad impression, rediscovered them 20 years later.

In a Storied River, Fish Are Dying in Droves as Climate Change Scorches Canada (NY Times)-Very disturbing info

Far as I can tell, this is both the start and the end of this topic. None of the 34 papers citing this work by Crockford take further steps to clarify the historic use or distribution of bluefin in the NE Pacific and I couldn’t locate any others. That’s unfortunate and Crockford is apparently...

    Pliers

I like pliers with side cutters, so the cutters don’t interfere with hook removal on unruly fish. I also like plastic handles with cold wet hands. I am partial to these Penn pliers, with sheath and cord, sometimes on sale for $35.

    Republican Debate

I watch debates to get a sense of candidates’ demeanors, and their ability/interest in answering actual questions posed to them (vs deflection and self-aggrandizement). I just loved the question about UFOs and that the answer actually ended with the word “UFOs.” I otherwise find the...

    Fly rod for Chinook?

I use a two-hand 13’5” 9 wt when wading rivers (mostly pure swings) and a single hand 9 wt fishing from the boat (swinging and stripping). My 9 wt single handers are saltwater models with some strength to fight fish, not the less beefy “all water” 9wts. As noted above a 10wt comes in handy...
