How did you end up in your career?

I was in 10th grade and it was during Chemistry class. The teacher asked each student to say what they planned to do for a "career." The responses ran the gamut from doctor, lawyer, to electrician and plumber. When it was my turn I said I was planning to go to college and become a chemist. I...

    Baseball 2025

Baseball is a joke from a competition perspective. Most of the money is in the ALE and they get 3 teams in the playoffs. And its such a simple fix. No divisions. Balanced schedule. Everybody plays everybody the same number of games. Top 6 (too many but I'd compromise) make the playoffs. 1 and...

    Rod Carriers

I just break my rods down in half and slip them in a rod sleeve. Takes a whole whopping 30 seconds to be back in business and just a little cheaper than a rod vault.

    The Aleutians

Surprised to see they are using long tail mud motors as opposed to short shaft surface drives. So much easier to drive the surface drives. Looks like a cool trip!

    Tipping shuttle drivers

I think you're kidding yourself. They are going to drive how they drive. LOL

Retrieving balanced leeches in still water

A bobber stopper on your leader is a terrific way to be able to reset your indicator after a fish. No need to hook on the hemostats again.

    FS Inflatable life vest

Thats the same one I used to wear on my skiff. Good stuff. GLWS.

Best rod for the salt and why?

And therein lies the problem. No one rod is a good choice for that variety. So if you are dead set on just one rod then get a 9wt.

Best rod for the salt and why?

That still too broad for much of a decision. What are you typically fishing for? Now that said I think neither or both of those rods. If I was to have just one saltwater rod it would be a 9wt.

    Adventure in Iceland

Awesome. I looked into going to Iceland to fish for the giant browns in Lake Thingvallavatn. Pricey as heck but wow some big fish. Couldn't get anybody to go with me.

    Redemption in the Everglades

Its probably the engineer in me. But what it comes to tarpon fishing I have found that the more details you pay attention to the better your chances. Then you still won't land them.....LOL

    Redemption in the Everglades

Nice you could get away with 80# bite tippet. Once hooked up you can fight them a bit longer before they chew through it. We started with 60# and couldn't get any eats so dropped down to 40#. Then hooked 3 but they got bit through right off the get go. Went to 50# and that seemed to be the sweet...

    Redemption in the Everglades

Hey its fantastic to hook a poon. Landing one is icing on the cake. I apologize for chiming in on the Chittum skiff stuff but in fairness the OP did make a pretty big deal about that in his post.

    Redemption in the Everglades

I have fished on many dozens of skiffs over the last 50+ years. I have owned 2 of my own. I have poled probably a couple of dozen different boats. As I said if money is no object then Chittums are terrific boats. But my skiff will get dang near as skinny as a comparable Chittum. It will pole...

    Redemption in the Everglades

I would own a Chittum on one condition. 1. They gave it to me and told me I couldn't sell it. Great boats? Absolutely. Overpriced? A lot. But if money is no object then probably the boat to have. Not sold on total carbon boats from a ride perspective though.

    Tarpon 2025

Just got home from 4 days chasing tarpon in FL. Saw plenty of fish and had every kind of weather imaginable usually all in the same day...lol. And as per usual the fish were doing tarpony things although we actually had some good success this time around. Took a buddy who has done a lot of...

    More on reels...

I went the other way. Buy once and cry once. Other than a couple of Lamson Guru S+ all my reels are Abels. Will out live me and pass them down to my boys.....well except that neither of them fish....🤪

When you get a window and the lake is open... GO

A guy I know just posted on FB that he had just hooked his skiff up then realized it was Saturday so decided not to go. I answered that while I get that and prefer to fish during the week myself the fact is every day you don't go when you can is a day you never get back.

    What to do conundrum

YNP just instituted Hoot Owl restrictions on the Madison, Firehole, and one other stream within the Park. Suspect MT fish and game will follow suit before too long. I fished Henrys Lake day before yesterday and water was 70 mid day! Slight good news is we have a cold front coming for a couple of...

    The good boat deal thread

A buddy of mine told me this story when we were fishing couple of days ago. Thought I'd share it here as it seem to fit. This occurred two weeks ago. A guy he knows and has fished with for over 10 years had decided after all these years to buy a boat. He's been a float tube/pontoon guy his...
