Landscape Photos - Fishing Related (show us yours)

Got to experience an abrupt change to a fishing landscape today. Not the kind of excitement I was hoping for on my first trip of the year. I was maybe 80yds downstream when this big cedar crashed into the river. I had been fishing that spot about an hour earlier. Probably would've been OK...

    Cell Phone Pics

Great pics of a fascinating place. Fascinating because the geology has nothing to do with the Cascades and is actually as result of the Yellowstone mantle plume:

    Do you get distracted?

"Her ability to focus and the love for what she does allows her to not be distracted by outside stuff." ^ ^ ^ This right here is the reason I take exception to terms like "disorder" and "deficit". ADD is actually advanced focus capacity for things that spark interest. Speaking for myself...

    Do you get distracted?

My 2 cents.... It's only a "disorder" in terms of functioning in modern, hyper-structured life. Attention "deficit" is a matter of context. Drop equal numbers of "normal" and ADD/ADHD kids into a wilderness setting, then come back in 6 months. My money is on the "disorder" kids surviving...

    2025 Fishify Wrapped

Impressive list and detailed record keeping. Mostly impressed with your skill limiting trumpetfish hookups. Got sick of those things real quick on my first trip to Baja. Mine goes something like Days Fished: 20-25-ish Most Fished Freshwater/Method/Flies: SWW CR Trib pocket water / Dry...

    What's in your vise?

I like how he uses the Krystal flash with resin to create a sort of spine that keeps the upper wing material from fouing. On another note, not sure getting UV resin on bare fingers is a good idea. Maybe I'm just paranoid having to deal with similar industrial chemicals at work, but nothing...

    What Are You Eating?

Dry sautéed these fresh oyster mushrooms then finished with a little olive oil and lightly salted. Tasted one and forgot to take a finished plate pic.

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Fresh batch of oysters off the same log. Really liking these.

    Changes

Not just Westport. I've seen trips cancelled at other ports due to bar crossing times not lining up with fuel dock hours. We have zero control over ocean, but can't have a guy work late at the fuel dock? WHY? does his truck turn into a pumpkin if he's not home by 5:30? Literally ONE DUDE's...

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

I made the mistake of watching some vids on this. Yah, I'm in.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

Need to work out some details but thinking this is a go. Will try to have a firm answer by lunch.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

Super appreciate the invite, and would love going with this group. Just not in a position right now where it feels "responsible" jumping on board, but also know I'll regret not going.... arrgh! I can make it work, but need a day to process. Gonna be hard to focus at work tomorrow!

    PNW Flood Watch - Dec 8-12, 2025

Downriver view last week Normally I'd agree. Now that we're on well water, not so much. At least until I get a separate generator set up at the pump house (project #367).

Everett Washington best steelhead Rivers for beginners / Skykomish Hwy2

The irony of fishing high water is there's much less to cover, and often within a rod length away. Landing fish in high flows is entirely another matter.

    Got any bird pics?

Steve, FWIW, scrub jays have been very common here in SWW since I've lived here in the mid 70's. At least in more open environments like typical single family home neighborhoods. Deeper into the woods or hills and Stellars are the main jay. A fun anecdote from those days. There was a...

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Was clearing some dead branches yesterday and found another oyster mushroom log. There were some big ones but they were old and slimy. Picked a couple small fresh ones. Not sure if oysters produce from the same log more than once? Also found some fresh turkey tail. Edit: Never had wild...

Non-Fly Recommendations on spin gear upgrades

I like spin outfits for the light gear capability. Especially with spooky fish in slow clear pools. My favorite tactic for spooky salmon in water like that was a small gob of eggs on a 4# hook with a long/light blood-knotted leader. No swivel, no weight. Some current was needed to make this...
