I thought this was a seal. This guy was much smaller than I thought they would be.

Non-Fly 2023 - Dirtbag PS Salty Salmon Fishing

I heard that there were still a decent number of pinks around, so I decided to take my dad out fishing to see if we could catch a late season pink or two. Overall it was a slow afternoon, but we surprisingly we did see a few bright pinks caught. I figured we would just see the humped up dark...

It is the best pink fishing I have ever encountered. It is nice to see the fish rebound the way they have. I wish the same could be said for the other salmon. I remember once seeing fish jumping like how @Nick Clayton encountered. It was crossing the west Seattle bridge back in 2001...

    Puget Sound

There were more than 100 people out there. What is crazy is I think there were even more people out the week before. It was cool to see the 2 guys fly fishing from paddle boards out there Sunday. Perfect conditions for it, but much braver than me. I would be too afraid to fall in. It was...

Strange, weird or odd or whatever beach finds thread….

I am not sure. They guys on the beach were telling the cops he ran into the bushes when I got there. With all of the poison ivy warning signs I am not sure those are bushes I would want to run into naked.

Glad I showed up with the kids after that happened. That is one way to get some new piercings with all the hooks flying around though. I caught a hook in the chest that day and they guy next to me caught one with his shorts.

    Non-Fly Repainting rotators/buzz bombs

I give the chewed up ones to the kids. They hook plenty of fish with them. When I remember I go with nail polish as @Stonedfish mentioned.

    Non-Fly Buzz bomb/Rotator Hooks

I have used the Siwash crimped on a swivel and not on a swivel the most. This year I bought a buzz bomb that came with a single hook (kids fishing have lost a lot of them) and I really like the single point hook that comes with it. It looks similar to an octopus hook.

Non-Fly Advice for Spinning gear for Puget Sound

For fishing buzz bombs from the beach I use a 9'6" Fenwick light rod. Personally, I prefer the light - medium/light action from the beach. For a spinning reel the Penn reels work well, I also like the Pfluger President series. Line: I tend to fish a lighter braid 10-12lb with a mono leader...

I have seen some big waves the tide change before. Constant sets breaking where I have never seen freighter waves break before.

I did that once. Car identical to mine was parked right next to me. I got in and a kid said “dad”. I got out of that car real fast.

    Sunset

The only time I have to fish for salmon is in the early mornings, but I have caught my fair share of fish before the sun starts to light the sky. As my 4yo says, we beat the sun to the beach.

I had a bunch of follows all the way to my rod tip, but no bites this morning. My son lost one on lead. From what I could tell it was a slow day for all.

SFR: "Shark or Orca: Which Should You Fear More?"

Spear fishing out in Hawaii it was always the grey reef sharks that freaked me out the most. They always seemed to be the most aggressive and most unpredictable.
