    What Are You Eating?

Booked a half day out of Sayulita with Jorge at Sayulita Pescadores. We caught a bunch of small to medium dorado (gear and live bait). They made some tasty tacos when cooked up with tajin and panko. The rest will go on the grill. For future reference, Jorge also guides fly fishing trips for a...

    2 Rods on a River

I often like to fish two rods for trout when on foot and wanting to be thorough before changing locations. Think rivers that you drive between spots. Both rods fully rigged, one typically set up dry/dropper or tight line nymphing, one to throw streamers or soft hackles. I stash the streamer rod...

    What's in your vise?

I essentially copied this technique. Thread body and thick uv finish. I like his tip to de-shine the resin a bit by rubbing it with your finger before it’s completely dry. Wish I had some darker beads for the weighted heads. Would also look great in a cinnamon color.

    What's in your vise?

Sunk ants. Weighted and unweighted. Hare’s ears. And a couple soft hackles.

    Rotary vise recs

I can see the appeal of the Nor vise and it would definitely be a consideration if not for the price of admission. Looks very effective for laying down a thread base and production tying.

    Rotary vise recs

Thanks! Nick’s video is super helpful. Seems like the mongoose has more plastic than some of the comparable models. Have you had any issues with any components?

    Rotary vise recs

I’m in the market for a new vise. Currently tying on a regal medallion which I love but interested in a true rotary function. I perused a thread from last year and it seems like the renzetti traveler and peak rotary are two favorites that I will be considering. Primarily tying trout flies down...

    What's Catching You Fish?

Water had come down some but was still high and a bit off color. Heavily weighted stonefly got plenty of interest but an orange bird of prey won the day. Some smolt and smaller fish but the majority were quality redsides with an inclination for aerobatics. The prize in the crackerjack box.

Post your first fish of 2025 here

Felt good to finally get out to the river for the first time in 2025, especially after being pretty sedentary this past month. Hooked something fast and strong not long before landing this one but it broke me off in heavy current. As an aside, I recently tore my ACL and immediately reached...
