    Got any bird pics?

When the winter crew of juncos, white crowned sparrows, house finches, robins, cedar waxwings, mourning doves and collared doves gathered at our place this fall, some red breasted nuthatches hung with them briefly. The last species was a new backyard bird for me. The tree is a linden, a...

    Wear your life vest

I was also always motivated to wear a life jacket, so I could immediately keep my wits about me if I needed to help kids, or others, in an unexpected situation, and mostly kept up the practice after the kids were grown up and elsewhere. Thanks for the reminder! I stick w buoyant pfds that...

    Adult damsels? Need help!

I recall some one on the old forum where, after catching enough fish on damsels, just started picking apart live damsels and throwing parts on the water to see what minimum was needed to attract takes. In his telling, just the blue abdomen that day. So just a body and hackle has appealed to...

    E bikes for fishing

Thx Looks like it’s complicated wrt who administers particular lands, wdfw, dnr, or national forest. I can think of some geology I’d like to see, with trails, but too far out and back for a day hike. Usually people get there on mtn bikes. I’ll have to carefully check out the particular...

    Leech Lake Newb

Freshly stocked fish will hit a birds nest trolled shallow. When the fish move down and behave like real fish, a hares ear is good and may work throughout the season if you know how to fish it and where. (Don’t ask, lol) Other flies on the top for lake insects as hatches take off as the summer...

    Booby Pattern

Totally agree that a variety of flies can be made floating, after having been introduced by a friend to a foam fly w a lip in front, I forget the name of the fly and its inventor. Over time I found that some flies w foam may wiggle without a lip just from the turbulence a bulk of foam creates...

What's your favorite dry or emerger Callibaetis pattern?

OK, I’ll confess, there was one day on Leech when they were taking Callibaetis and my sparkle duns, and then later they were refusing my fly even though the real bugs were still around. I switched up to a leech, caught a fish, and sampled it. It was now eating little antish/waspy things. So...

What's your favorite dry or emerger Callibaetis pattern?

My experience has been that parachute Adams work sometimes just fine, but may be refused at other times. I’ve settled on sparkle dun in gray as an emerger taken without hesitation or refusal, and similarity, a gray cripple. 14 or 16. Jay

    Got any bird pics?

The last shot catches the act, and in addition to showing the hood in profile, reveals how it uses its tail to push down on the water to help raise it up for the dive, which I did not know. Good shot! Jay
