    Fiberglass/Cottonwood build

3 coats of Hellman's spar varnish (satin). I apply the last coat while turning the grip on my rod turner, to ensure the finish levels out.

    Fiberglass/Cottonwood build

Thanks Mike, I picked up some dried ctnwwd bark chunks and ripped them into 1/2" thick slabs (with the grain. I then used a 1 1/4" hole saw to cut into rings. I glued (Titebond III) them onto a stainless steel mandrill (slightly larger dia than rod it is going on..to reduce reaming), clamped for...

I think that would look great on a bamboo rod.....Go for it !

    Fiberglass/Cottonwood build

Just finished this 7'6" 3 wt glass build, with cottonwood bark/black striped cork grip, bright aluminum seat. I kept the wraps fairly neutral to keep the grip as the highlight. I think it pairs nicely with a Gray Wolf model 2 pillar reel. I have a local stream, full of rainbows, in mind for this...

    Salmon lake resort

Ditto re Nutella's advice about shallows at far end. sz 10-12 root beer coloured chronies work well.

I think you've got a fisherman there...... (y) Here's a pic a friend just sent me, showing his new grandson (with a little help from Ai)........(I blanked the face out) on the river. ...Pretty cute !

    NFR RIP Capt Insano Emeritis

I didn't know him personally, but appreciated his "good sense of strange humour" posts as well...I'm sure: a creative outlet for him as well. RIP Capt !

    SFR Losing Interest

Definitely a learning curve. My wife loves to tell all who'll listen about sitting on the beach, watching me trying shake the pinchers loose from my finger tip. It's like slamming your finger a car door (which, oddly, I've done)..and it's very similar.

    SFR Losing Interest

I think "changing it up" is key to refreshing interest. Half the interest for me is exploring new facets, imagining/building new stuff, etc. These past 2 months I've taken an interest in (don't laugh) wading for dungeness crabs, which is still "fishing" in my usual haunts, but using a DIY...

SFR Aliens, Bigfoot, and other unexplained phenomena!

Astronomers estimate there billions (20 sextillion?) of planets in the universe. To think ours is the only one that is inhabited would seem, to me, pretty naive. I don't know if any ET's have arrived here, but, if they have, they're more advanced than we are.
