Fly fishing in Colombia (the country)

I'm going to Colombia for a couple of months this spring. Will be in Bogota and Santa Marta, maybe some other places. Anyone done any fishing in that region? I know there are a couple of fly shops in Bogota, but any connections or advice would be welcomed. Thanks!

Annual favorite fish of the year thread.

That scenario, I believe, is the most satisfying of all in fly fishing.

Annual favorite fish of the year thread.

Not the prettiest catch last year, but definitely the least expected. Trout fishing in Montana, and my friend/guide said one section of the river had pike and we should bring an 8-weight. Sure enough! Also caught a bunch of beautiful trout. Fantastic week with friends and lots of fish.

    Scott GS 84/3?

I'll second the 3 wt. Winston WT. Totally agree that it feels like a 1 wt. My absolute favorite small stream rod (and I also have a 1 wt). I also have the 8' 4 wt Pure, and it's a sweet rod, but there's not much area where I think those two rods overlap.

    Lamson saltwater reel drag system

OK, great to hear. I ended up buying one of the Centefire HD reels since they went on sale, so I'll be taking that with me. I think an extra hub makes sense for the Litespeed, and that will give me a good backup. I'll contact Lamson. I also have an old Orvis DXR 9/10 that was one of my first...

Waders that will last me at least 5 seasons

I'll second the Patagucci's. I probably only fish 25-30 days per year, but mine are 6 years old and in great shape. As far as removing them, I generally have a fishing partner pull on the heel while I point my toes to loosen them up. If I'm alone, it's harder to get them off. I've had one leak...

    Deals at online Retailers

I recently started a discussion on the Gear forum about this reel, and the HD version just went on sale. A number of places, including Sierra, have it at a discount, but it seems to be cheapest directly from the Lamson site. I have one on the way. Will use it for salt and spey...

    Edge Fly Rods mini review

I like the blanks, too. I have another NFC rod, a switch built on the LMX FASW1106-4 blank for me by Big Horn Rodworks (https://bighornrodworks.com/; Can't say enough positive about their work), that is my new favorite rod. But it has been a less-than-ideal journey with Edge. Hopefully my most...

    Edge Fly Rods mini review

I got two tubes, 34 inches and 42 inches. So, yeah, both are longer than necessary. But, as @Buzzy said, better too long....

    Edge Fly Rods mini review

I have an update on this thread. I broke the tip on my single hander 907 this fall fishing for pinks. Not clear why it broke, but it meant another interaction with Edge. I got a quick response from them on what to do for the repair. I was required to send in the whole rod and pay $75 to replace...

    Lamson saltwater reel drag system

Thanks, everyone. As I said, I've had no issues with my older Litespeed, but it's never been used on bonefish. Glad to hear that others have had a positive experience. The Lamsons never seem to get mentioned in discussions around bonefish, GTs or similar warm saltwater fish. Not sure why, other...

    Lamson saltwater reel drag system

Anyone have any experience with the Lamson saltwater reels? I'm really looking for feedback on the drag system and thinking about the Centerfire, Litespeed (the current version), or the earlier Cobalt. I'm planning a trip to Belize, but I also want something that will be super reliable as I...

Sierra has Simms wading boots on sale now, including lots of popular sizes. Worth a look if you need boots.
