I use sand paper over a piece of neoprene to sharpen my convex edges. Use it like a strop and the neoprene will bend following the convex edge. I go progressively finer and then to the strop. If that makes sense.

Sounds like the 30-06 you already have is what will work well for what you are describing. Although I'm all for excuses to buy something else.
