    Coho jigs

Go to STS online and to the section “Articles. Page 6 has one twitching for salmon. All the advise says to keep the lift of your rod tip short with a sorta quick lift. Have done this more with pinks than coho. Pinks are not as fussy as coho in the little amount of experience i have had. The...

    Coho jigs

So I carry way to much gear but what about making some in red, orange, white and then some jigs in flash colors ? Or do you guys just mix those other colors and flash in with the blacks, blues etc ? And are you fishing jigs in slow and faster water ?

    Resi-Salmon Program

Curt thanks for the information. In the beaches I tromp around at these fish are seen one day and gone the next. Chasing the food I assume. Eagle creek is one program I know is still going and the guys from the Snohomish sportsman club say they are still running a program on one of the creeks...

    Resi-Salmon Program

I have noticed what appears to be resident coho on one NS area 9 beach but only a couple of times. The fish are mostly small average from say 6-12” and they appear to be feeding on something small. I caught a couple last year on small orange/pinkish shrimp flies. They do look like small salmon...

    Favorite Fly Line Manufacturer

SA, Cortland and for 3rd place probably Airflo. I would try Rio for spey/switch lines just not for trout although I did splurge for another outbound short again. My Sa/Cortland lines are going on 30 + years of service and that’s darn good. with so many brands being bought & sold who knows what...

Best 2nd rod after a 6wt rod purchase

I have the Reddington classic trout rod in a 4wt. Use only for lakes. Would not buy another as I don’t like soft rods. If a soft/more flex rod is wanted just get a fiberglass rod.

    Puget Sound

Fun weather this morning at NS beach. Got there to late for the high tide but stuck around to play in the wind. Waves were almost Hawaii like for a time but settled down to regular. Didn’t see any piscatorial activity from the beach or boats out front. Lots of salad on the menu until the wind...

    Area 9 Opener

good weather this morning. Rain, wind and a not bad current. Nothing when I first got there but then I saw some movement. Thinking these were resident coho. Tried several flies with no luck. But it was sure nice to fish around. Still wondering what might be the best fly/flies if these were...

House bug infestation- help ID and tips?

I don’t mess around. Go to hardware store, buy concentrated ant and bug poison. Mix up a batch in the bug sprayer and spray all areas where they show up including all around the foundation of the house. Repeat all spring, summer and fall. They like to get between the cracks and spaces on the...

Big Fish Nymphing [Poll] Mono vs. Fluoro

throwing out another history tid bit, back in the Old Noodle rod days they/we would use 4-6 lb. maxima and down to #8 bait hooks. Of course you had to play them very gently but it was done. Think I lost 10-12 fish in and around the beginners hole on that K river down south from the hook coming...

Big Fish Nymphing [Poll] Mono vs. Fluoro

seaguar for me also. But do check your line after purchase and occasionally at home and definitely at stream side. I run the line through my hand checking for any defects. Your forgiveness is higher I’d say with ultra green than it is with fluorocarbon. Check your knots after tying them if they...

    Kalama River

As Rob said they were known as springers. We spent much time chasing them back then. My favorite month was June. Good amount of water and not too hot during the day. My largest was 19 lbs. and was a hatchery fish as they were doing that selective sampling to get larger fish to return back then...

    Kalama River

I think your right about summer runs being skammania fish and I thought some winter plants were chambers creek ? There was talk of doing a brood stock for winters or summer runs but that was probably just a rumor ? But why not they have a couple of spots were they can sort fish out. Do miss...

    Kalama River

Coho king, like you we used to fish whenever we could since my folks lived in Camas. I check the return numbers over the years and it looks pretty bleak compared what it once was for salmon & steelhead. Springer numbers are way down and coho/king numbers are fair some years and poor other years...

    Official Beach Line Thread

How far out are you guys generally casting ? And do the fish up there get kinda nervous or spooky when they get closer to the beach like they do down here on some of our northeast sound beaches ? Thanks.

    Official Beach Line Thread

I know this is not NW related but “Trident“ did a Tropical fly line shoot out article a while back. Interesting comparisons between fly lines. Plus the chart shows weights, length of heads, etc. really would like to try casting and comparing the Wulf versus OBS versus SA Amplitude Titan. I think...

Got all my “how to cope with waves” training trying to fish beaches on Maui in September. They never stop there except for a very short time a first light in the morning on few select beaches.
