Olivia Elia feature video (with a huge shout out to Dave Dozer and a tip of the hat to Preston Thompson Guitars)

I would like invite Olivia to our Bamboo Fling in June. As I mentioned last year, I acquired one of her rods. I would love to have her showoff some of her rods to our little group. When we settle on a date, I will send her an E-mail. By the way I had to miss last year's Bamboo Fling: I was...

    Pretty cool time capsule

I have a bunch of them. 2 were brought back from Japan during the Korean War as gifts from my uncle. The rest have just showed up on my doorstep over the years, not sure where they came from. They do make nice wall hangers and I enjoy working on them bringing them back to some level of...

    Bamboo fling 2025

The choice of cherry and maple wood along with the dove tail joinery and French cleats make this a piece of art. It looks to me like you have all the skills necessary to build a bamboo fly rod from scratch. Everything looks well cared for.

    Bamboo fling 2025

When I first read your post, I thought you were suggesting Mother's Day. My first thought was "Are you nuts". The Saturday before Mother's Day is possible but cutting it a little close. Mother's Day is May 11th. I would like to see if we could hold the fling on one of the other Saturdays.

    Bamboo fling 2025

I didn't expect discussion on the Bamboo Fling quite this soon. How about sometime in May after opening day for our lakes on the west side. The Cascade Park location is fine with me. I was unable to make it last year and I have a couple of new rods to show off. One new and a Hardy rod over a...

    Bremerton Poggie Club Classes

After several years the Bremerton Poggie Club is going to hold classes for fly tying and rod building. Like everyone else we had to shut down our meetings and classes due to Covid. The attached flier gives you the dates and location. The classes are open to the public and not limited to club...

    Classic reels

I have an old Pflueger Progress skeleton style reel with a broken pal spring. I know these reels aren't worth much, but this one belonged to my Dad and is a keepsake to me. Is there anyone out there that can fix a broken pal spring?

    Drift boat anchor recasting

I think it might be more cost effective to drill out the eye making sure you got all of the steel out of the hole and replace it with a stainless-steel eye.

    Port Ludlow Pram Build

I have an El Toro sailboat which should measure the same as a Smith Brothers Pram. Smith was building El Toro sailboats on Anacortes Island years many ago and I think the pram came of the same jig. You and Jameson are welcome to come by and take all of the measurements you want.

    Olivia Feature Article

Olivia made a fly rod for me last year. Truely a beautiful fly rod. She used a redwood burl for the reel seat. Since I am from California (35 Years ago) it was special to me.

    Bamboo Fling 2024

Haven't seen a post for a month. Just checking in to make sure the Fling is still a go for the June the 9th. I get back from BC on the 5th so it is a go for me.

    Oyster Bamboo rods

True, Oyster rods won't catch any more fish, but sometimes it is about the art.

    Oyster Bamboo rods

Has anyone out there acquired a Bill Oyster bamboo fly rod? If so, are they as beautiful as they appear on their internet site. I have been drooling over them for some time. So far, I have been able to resist, it's a financial issue. One of those things in life that you don't really need...

    Bamboo Fling 2024

Did everyone see the thread "Past Bamboo Gathering"? I think it would add something to the Bamboo Fling if we held it at a place where we could cast a fly and fish. I am not interested in spending $300 for a permit though. I am sure we could find something. Think about it and let's talk...

    Bamboo Fling 2024

Tell me is there a cure for an addiction to acquiring bamboo fly rods? I picked up another one yesterday. Like many of us I have some nice old rods and some nice new ones also some that were just fun to acquire and rebuild. Looking forward to the Bamboo Fling.

    Rescue, maybe…

Looks like a straight forward fix. To do it right you will have to remove the stripping guide so that you can put on a new cork grip. The hole in the cork grip will have to be reamed to fit the taper of the bamboo. The new reel seat will be put on first from the butt end. Make sure you align...
