    Cutty time

SO, I was all ready to hit my local S river on Nov 1. WDFW shut it down again indefinitely. Sigh I guess I could try the other S river that is open

    Pass lake algae

Cottage lake, a put & take lake near me, has the same issue. The water quality association decided to treat it with Lanthanum. Unfortunately, that has not completely solved the problem. The levels took a little longer to reach toxicity...This would be a great opportunity for the biochemists to...

    Cutty time

Yeah, my local src river is still closed. My trip up north to find open water was productive, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the summer/ fall closure. I fished a local creek that was open just for kicks. Found 3 small resident cutthroat . Saw 2 chinook. Makes no sense to me that a...

    Salmon rod weight

When it jumped 3 feet outta the water 200 yards out (to flip me off) it was clear that it was a bright coho.

    Salmon rod weight

I like my 7 weight. I lost a big strong salmon on a 6wt while SRC fishing. That fish was just unstoppable. I think the reel matters as well. The click and pawl reel was not the best choice...

    Cutty time

Spent a few hours at one of Old Man Jim's SRC spots. The cutts were there, hooked one on my first cast. Water was low. It will fish better if we get some rain. 4 hits, 2 fish released.... Lightning strike muddler.

    Popper action!!

You might try a "Popper Dropper" rig with a chronie or any small nymph. The dropper gets fish who are too shy for the popper.

    Trip this weekend?

Great time of year for the Forks of the Snoqualmie. I find slightly bigger fish this time of year. Lower down is where I would target. Maybe an october caddis stimulator dry or wet fly swung near woodpiles/logjams. Last outing on the south fork I was surprisedl by a 10-11 inch brook trout

Cheap, durable and easy hopper legs.

Love it! You might even burn the ends to keep it together and give it a black tip

    Cutty time

Really bummed about the closure of my S river. I may try an open P creek sorta nearby...

Do carp get "spookier" later in the summer?

Higher water temps make for more dozing and hovering, less active tail up hoovering. So yeah, a bit more spooky or more likely to startle.

Welded loop broke. Re-weld or snell knot?

Nail knot with a thin layer of nail polish to smooth it out and hold it solid. Tying a nail not is a trick every fly fisher should master.

    Snohomish/Skykomish get screwed

So from the boat launch to the first rail road bridge looks like about 200 yards of river. Another railroad bridge crosses about 400 yards further down. Am I reading this right or is WDFW really trying to cram at least a thousand Hook Huckers in a 2-400 yard stretch of the snohomish river?

    Puget Sound

Well I have a canoe, a hobie Mirage Kayak, and livingston boat. I have a wheel cart. The issue for me is boating in the sound. My Grandfather fished point no point everyday in an 8 foot livingston. Some days no problem, other days we were sure he would not return...

    Puget Sound

Question: What Marine areas are open for what? I usually intercept salmon in the Snohomish river system which is completely shut down so far... The regs are getting harder to interpret (at least for me) I can think of 3 or 4 beaches near me: Edmonds. MA 9 Picnic Point MA 9? Mukilteo MA 8-2...

NFR No scientific proof that happiness techniques work...

Josh: Yep rigorous scientific proof is hard to come by. Lots of psychological studies lately don't pass the sniff test. Dietary Supplement studies are often sponsored by the company. Some scientists juice their date ( Stanford comes to mind). Happiness is especially hard to quantify. I think...

    Snohomish/Skykomish get screwed

I just realized how angry and sad this situation makes me feel. Is it possible to be equally angry and sad at the same time, yep! I sent a nasty gram to the Mill Creek WDFW office. Yeah I know that will do diddly squat, but I had to vent somehow. What practical steps can we take to get...

    Minnow Patterns

Olive/White/Orange Optic Minnow is one of the best producers for me. The lighting strike marabou muddler also produces well (in white black and olive).

    Drainage ditch trout

I don't want to reveal too much about location.... but yes this might be a post spawn fish headed back to the office after spawning in X creek. April is a bit late for me to fish these spots, I usually get the football shaped fish in February. The fly is an optic variation I tied after reading...

    Drainage ditch trout

Found this healthy cutthroat in my local drainage ditch while swinging an olive and white streamer. Long, but a bit skinny compared to the usual. 2 other of similar size hit my streamer further down the ditch then spit out my barbless hook with disdain for me. They like to jump and head shake...
