    Cold Water Shock

Something more than a PFD is a very good idea. If you go into cold water without some kind of immersion gear, your lungs can be full of water from the gasp reflex before the PFD pulls you to the surface. I do all my kayaking in the (47-degree) open ocean and wear a semi-dry suit or a full...

    swim bait mod

Try Marine GOOP adhesive. If it can stick to HDPE kayak hulls it should stick to a swim bait.

Point up or points down? (Poll and comments)

You don't put your hands on the silverware either way.

Points up. It's how it's done in restaurants.

    Best 5wt Setup Recos?

Okay, makes sense when explained like that. I didn't consider false casts because I don't use them when casting from the beach because I'm always facing into the wind. Thanks!

What's an Orvis Ultrafine 55 Rod?

That was it. when I enlarged the picture of the rod, there's a "." between the fives. Never would have noticed it if I hadn't been looking for it. Thank you!

    Best 5wt Setup Recos?

The OP said that casting his current 6wt can make his shoulder ache yet most of the replies - except for the Ion XL - have been for fast-action rods that require more speed/power to cast effectively, where a softer rod should reduce the strain. Is there something about Washington beaches I'm...

What's an Orvis Ultrafine 55 Rod?

Ran acorss one that seems to be in good shape but can't find any information through a Google search. It's graphite... and that's about it. Anyone know what a "Ultrafine 55" is? (The rod is 7'9" long, so it's not the length.)

    Question for you folks

Easy to install, but often tricky to find - and they don't seem to be available for every tire/wheel size. Some are the size you might need, many are for bicycle-type tires. The good part is: if you can find them, you'll never need to replace them

Fishing after a major internal clot

If not already, you'll have a cardiologist to monitor your heart damage. They'll be the one to tell you how much you can do at different stages of recovery, usually as what your maximum heart rate (pulse) should be, It will change over time. Anti-coagulants are not as dangerous as it may...

    Question for you folks

Depending on the size of the tires, you can put foam inserts inside pneumatic tires and they'll never go flat. I use them in the wheels of a kayak dolly. Even without those, the advantages of pneumatic tires on an uneven surface will often outweigh the PITA factor.

    Affordable Saltwater Reels

Use the Salt-A-Way that Evan discussed, and rinse the reels in warm - not hot or cold - water every time you use on in saltwater. Warm water can dissolve and carry away more salt than either a fast hot water rinse or a long cold water soak.

    Gear

You didn't list a fishing license... Those come in handy now and again. And buy extra flies. Big ones. You're not going to fish with them, but what good is a fishing hat if it doesn't have at least a dozen flies stuck in it?

Thank you for your service question.

I don't display anything that would suggest I served, and I think all I have left of that time is my DD214, but it seems to me if someone openly identifies as an active duty member or a veteran, they're proud of what they did and it's fine to thank them. And not just at this time of year.

    Wanted Winston BiiiX 905-4

Already mostly sold (PENDING). Which one of you folks leaped on it before I could? Thank for the heads-up. I've purchased stuff on Facebook Marketplace before but didn't think about searching there for this particular rod. Appreciate the reminder.

    Questions about older rods

Yes, they do command high prices. I own a Winston so they were the first rods I thought about, until I saw the cost of admission. Scott G and G2 series are also costly. Older Sage rods are more plentiful and more economical than Winston or Scott. Maybe because there have been so many good...

    Questions about older rods

I fettered-away the past couple of years fishing a level shooting line tipped with T-18 sink tips. I'm not sure I can still recognize a rod that feels heavy when being cast, but this does help (force) me to remember things about rod design and material science I learned what seems to be a long...
