A 15 year old and her First Steelheads...and on Dry Flies : A Remarkable Reminiscence

What a great story!! Thanks for sharing. And what a fantastic memory for you and your daughter to share.

I watched the clip of her casting. What a fast learner!!

I appreciate all the generously kind responses. Having read each comment and wanting to respond appropriately is a little overwhelming. Community is part of the stoke.

I'm just a big fan of my daughters. I really don't know how to "dad". It's mostly just trying not to be heavy-handed: asking them what they want to do and me mostly saying "yes" with an occasional sprinkling of "Let's think about this...".

I reminisce about this trip because Emma is in college now with limited time for such moments. She's got a boyfriend so it's not as likely she would prefer to hang out with her dad during her free time. Although she did make me reserve camp this summer (greatly looking forward to that).

Enjoy the time with your kids while they're at home...make them fun memories if you can. Cheers!

@Eastside around this time of year, I start getting the itch to make plans for that special place. Hope you make it down there this year.

Bruce, she is a quick study. I was surprised at how well she timed her mechanics (full disclosure: I am a poor instructor).Full credit to her ability to adjust and adapt.

However, not long after this camp, Emma started hitting the weight room for volleyball. She built up quite a bit of muscle. By that winter, her casting mechanics suffered as she tried to "muscle" the rod.

Thanks for checking out that video clip. Cheers

Couldn't script it any better! What an awesome experience - I've been there in years past and it is a magical place. Your description of the goat trails, difficult wading, and challenging steelhead are no exaggeration. You're a hell of a teacher too . . that video of her throwning a cack handed single spey looks pretty polished. A tip of the cap to you and your daughter . . . Thanks for sharing!

Being a Dad can be overwhelming for sure. I really did enjoy your account.

Well written and great story. How exciting for both you and your daughter. Best fishing story by far!
