With a break in the weather finally, a dropping barometer, I made a 2 hour trip to a remediated river. The area on the flats that look so fishy, have confounded me, the freestone area better.

She’s finally settled down, crossing the river with me, sitting, watching when I say wait.
The light vest only so I can see her instantly.
The upper section I began fishing this morning which produces better, rainbows and browns.
And my plan to continue upstream ends.
Talking with the biologist who has been on the remediation from the start was insightful.
They count fish once/twice a year checking progress.
Supposed to be a west slope cutthroat, was first 2 years, especially the lower flats was great cutthroat.
Now it’s mostly rainbows and browns in the upper reaches.
Asked me how the lower section fished, I admitted no rises, bites.
He stated it’s not my fault, they’ve only recorded 50 fish per 1,000 feet, lot of areas were barren.
The picture above, in 40 feet, about 30 browns from 2” to 14” in the first bucket they netted I looked in.
