Chopaka Intel and local lake report

dep

Life of the Party
planning on heading to Chopaka the week of 5/18 for a few days.
would appreciate any updates on road conditions, lake levels, crowds, etc.

local lake report: Shady Lake.
went out yesterday afternoon and trolled some leeches/buggers on sinking lines.
ended up catching and releasing about 9 stockers. hit pretty good.
black was better than olive.

thanks-dp

canceling my trip. I am on the tail end of having pneumonia and at times I still feel not right.
does not make sense to be in a remote area by myself (of course other fisherman will will be there) and run out of stream.
I have plenty of time to get there.
maybe I'll be there the same time as you Doublehaul

will be car camping out of my suburban with my buddy (in an FJ).
hopefully we get one of the covered camp spots, but prepared for any campsite.
will be there thru Thursday and will deal with low water, wind, rain, Big Fish, etc.

if you are there, look us up.

Headed to Chopaka on the 18th. Me, my son, and a buddy.... group of 3 in xt pontoons (orange, green, blue). We're usually in the north-half of the lake. Stop by and say hello.

report:

arrived on Tuesday and fished 3 days. campsites were about 3/4's full.
the lake is still very low with visibility at about 5 feet. weather was all over the place from nice and calm and sunny to very breezy were it took down my awning on Wednesday. dark clouds came in with some thunder and one very loud lightning (did not see it though). it was enough to get off the water at 2:00 but did not materialize into any level of storm.
I counted 20 boats on water with 90% of them being chiro fishing.
from what I saw, they were not doing very good, but some fish were being caught.
we like to troll and strip flies on intermediate lines. we like to fish the south end of the lake, but it was very shallow and the weeds are starting to come up.
we got fish every day, but not big numbers. the best I did was 10 fish landed with a couple of LDR's and a few strikes on Wednesday.

But! the fish can be big. like up to 21 inches. they are strong and hard fighting fish. you knew immediately when you had one of the larger fish. smallest fish were 13 inches.

great to be able to sit around a camp fire at night.
I would say the bathrooms were not kept up as well as we have seen in the past. in 3 days being there, no one came to service the bathrooms. TP was running low.

the main road was fair but I understand the back road is in better condition.
best fly was a small hares ear. I got some on a damsel and my bugger I tie that I call purple haze.

good luck to anyone that goes.
