Fly fishing and mental health

Well done indeed and I miss it dearly. I'm thankful for photography.

That first young lady throws an awesome single spey both right hand up and left. A good deal of time practicing was well spent. Pretty much impossible to tell which is her dominant hand.

I support this video. Our $1000 flyrods should be a medical expense purchased through our tax free HSA accounts!
I broke my ankle on the job and as a result got to go to physical therapy on sick leave. I did notice, that the motions recommended by the PT were exactly those of fishing from a float tube with fins.

I gave it a try and it was better than the PT.

So I asked for a "prescription" for PT from my float tube. The answer was no.

Outstanding!

One of the things I love about my wife is she sees and feels when I am not right thinking or acting... she would just come to me at random times and say "You need to go to the woods." And I would say "is it the bad?" and she would just give me gentle words about my darkness, and then I would go for a couple days. There were other times when the wording and emphasis was more direct "YOU NEED TO GO TO THE WOODS!" and then I never questioned.

Several times when I was leading Scouts, other moms or parents asked my wife "don't you get tired of him being gone in the woods or fishing?" My wife replied no it "refreshes" him and then he is 100% for me and the kids and your kids.

She is awesome! Even though I live in the woods now she still let's me know when it's time to "go to the woods".

Amen...there is truth in "so focused on fishing that you forget everything else"...back in the day of working in my own business 70 hours a week for decades, the only place I didn't think about work was when I was on my boat either diving/spearfishing or fishing...I would even dream about work while sleeping. My life is much less stressful than before retiring, but still look forward to the restorative powers of wading or floating a stream or river...

I thought this was so well done...

Enjoy❤️

I've lived this for decades. What helped me start the first program, pre PHWFF, was my seeing what helped by grandpa. He was a WWll infantryman being an island hopper against the Japanese. He had really bad PTSD. We fished together, but when I was able to drive my own truck with my own boat, he was just able to fish. We didn't flyfish together, but we fished gear. My grandma wondered he was getting different and his sleep started to cool down. He still had bad nights but not as much. Wish be lived long enough to go with me to PHWFF.

I do know the program she's talking about in video. I spoke to runner of group a lot. My last run to the UK is was trying to help, just didn't have anything going at the time.

There are a few PHWFF videos out. Most done by others (I'm in 2 of the videos taken while I was doing my thing).

There's also 1 really good video. A one or 2 well known actors on them. If my memory brings it back up I'll post it up.

But I've seen what fishing can do for anyone having problems. BUT they have to want to do it. You'd be surprised how many join a program like this because they have to. And yes HAVE to. But those who will let us teach and help them, they have a new world open in front of them.

Since I have PTSD and TBI, though I hate admitting it, I'm doing better what I can fishing (actually on the water and home doing work on my gear and rods). I'm starting to work on my fly tying stuff. Haven't touched it since September. I know it'll help my brain, just something on me holding me from using it.

And I remembered movie. Mending the Line (2022). Was helped with talk from is in PHWFF about movie.
