Intel on fishing streams near Fernie BC or Glacier NP

I'm looking to extend a trip to N. Idaho on the St. Joe in early to mid-September. Typically we go to visit friends in Missoula and fish a few days, however the reports of their rivers look poor (low water, high temps.) So, both Fernie, BC and Glacier are roughly equidistant from the St. Joe.
I'd appreciate intel you could share on either or both locations including tips, recommended guides, places to stay, etc. We typically hire a guide for a day, then walk and wade on our own.
Thanks

Fernie is a cool ski town and one of my favorite places.

The Elk River is super convenient to Walk n wade, tons of vehicle pullouts along the highway, and plenty of quality west slope cutts on big dries.

Elk River Guide/Fly shop is right in town and can point you to some other waters beside the Elk that are worth the visit.

Be aware that they have a permit system with limited entry days on some of the rivers and creeks up there. It would be best to check in advance for availability. Beautiful area.
