I’ve carried an Olympus Tough TG-4 with me while fishing for a number of years. It’s been a great little camera and has worked well for my less than stellar photo needs and the wireless download software works fine. I like the size and features it offers.
The zoom feature seems to have finally failed, so I’m thinking about updating to a new camera like the TG-7.
I haven’t shopped cameras in a long time. Any other recommendations for small, waterproof point and shoot cameras I might consider? I don’t want anything bigger than my current camera and have no interest in using my phone.
Thanks for your input.

You can take a look at this link and check out the most recent introductions. Actually, here's a link for the most recent in comparison columns.

For me, the biggest plus to the TG7 is the 25mm (equivalent) lens on the wide end--all the others only do 28. Not a huge difference, but 6 degrees wider isn't nothing. Also a faster aperture, which IMO is huge when it comes to small sensors. I own the TG4 or 5 (can't remember at the moment), and one other thing I like about it is that the lens is usable zoomed in--it isn't complete garbage. A lot of the compacts are sharp(ish) at the wide zoom settings, but completely fall apart if you zoom in. According to the comparison, the TG7 is also the only one offering some form of image stabilization, which I think is a pretty big plus. (Lastly the Oly will save images in a raw format, which I do like and sometimes use, though I realize that's beyond what many people would want.)

The biggest advantages to the other options would appear to be higher megapixel counts--16 or 20 instead of 12 for the Oly. If that matters to you, that could be a factor.

I had an early Pentax rugged camera, and the (**&*&^%^$%#$ battery would slowly drain when the camera was off. I essentially had to charge it every time before I went out. That was 12 or 15 years ago and I'm not saying the current versions do that, but let's just say that was the end of the road for my usage with that brand.

I’ve been using the Insta360 X5 and it’s held up well through rain, drops, and being stuffed in a wet pack all day. What I like most is how fast it turns on and shoots—great for quick fish pics without fumbling. If you're looking for cameras for fishing that don’t need babying around water or rocks, that one’s worth checking out.

hi, i just purchased a OM TG-7. looking forward to taking it out on the water. does anyone have experience with a 'non-OM' battery? i would like to buy a spare battery or two, and was wondering if any of the brands on amazon are ok ??? thx greg

I have a Fuji xp60 and have had it for many years. Adequate for my meager photography skills. But it has been dependable. I was in the habit of bragging I hadn't fallen in the river for many many years but the first day I had this camera, sure enough in I went. So I was glad for the water proof feature.

Can’t say on the non OEM batteries, but I will say the battery that comes with the my TG-4 has great life. I can go multiple trips and take a lot of pictures before it needs to be charged.
I did upgrade to a 8 GB Scandisk memory card that lets me take about a 1,000 or so pictures.

I have a SterlingTek for my TG-4. Not sure the capacity is as good as the OEM, but no problems and I've been satisfied. As @Stonedfish mentioned, the OEM battery life is pretty good.

The Digital Photography Review; aka DPReview website nailed it for my last two waterproof-rugged cameras
adding - There were some nice accessories for the TG5 like a lens ring that allows me to use a polarizing filter.
