Have 1 week to play in mid August looking for a stillwater trout lake on the smaller side, one I can effectively fish with my watermaster.

I'm leaving from Libby traveling thru Polson then on to Townsend. Will have my F150 and a small travel trailer so a lake with a small campground would be perfect. Feel free to PM me.

Seeley Lake area has smaller lakes and some state parks with camping. Go through Bigfork out of Kalispell to get there, or up from Missoula..

Most of the lower elevation lakes are going to have water temps that aren't very conducive to C&R fishing by August.
I just spent a week at a MT lake that is at a 6300' elevation and the daytime water temps ranged from 67-71 degrees.
I would base my research on water temps and plan accordingly.
Given it's depth and the fact that it's not all that far from Townsend you might check this one out.

Thanks for that, looks interesting.

I've fished Chopaka in mid August when day temps were in the 90's. Surface temps were warm, but the fish were really biting & super active just above the weed beds in 20' of water. So yeah, some depth is a good thing.

For further lake suggestions I'm not backpacking, I'd need a road & preferably a small campground. Have a 4x4 so rough roads are ok

Might be a bit out of your way depending on where your final destination is, but Georgetown Lake has a great campground and fishing access in the southwest corner. Just off the camp area the water drops into around 6-15’ and the fishing has been stellar for me.
Edit: southeast corner

What campground there do you prefer? Thanks. Cheers,
