I'm new to fly fishing and was wondering if this LL Bean rod would be a good choice for fly fishing for salmon in the Puget Sound area?

Yes it will work. I would go 7 weight at minimum.

I know nothing about those particular rods, but an 8 wt is a popular weight for river salmon fishing. You might also consider Echo, TFO or Redington brands in your search.
In the Puget Sound area, unless you have a boat fishing the mouths of rivers can be difficult due to limited access. Even with a boat it can be difficult on some systems due to getting to the estuaries on lower tides.
