I have a 0 on my 3 wt too. But at the time they were not all that well reviewed and most found the clicker weak and fragile. I’ve never had a problem and it’s almost 30yrs now.
I’ve never fished the Yakima but I do love a good bwo hatch. I remember some days they were so thick on the water that it was hard to pick out which fly was mine. There were so many noses poking up that I had to set the hook on instinct but turns out my instincts suck for that. The best fishing...

Just a couple small holes in the corners to let it drain. I hate having to dump it all the time. If I wade deep , I just hike it up a bit. I do have one of those flat ones with all the plastic bits sticking up and it actually works really well. No sides no need for drain holes.
That real seat is a sliding seat so it can be adjusted. They were usually fished about 4” up from the butt. Seems today people mount them mid to top of the handle, they seem very concerned about balance in their outfits to limit fatigue . I guess back then, steelheaders had stronger arms...
It definitely looks like a bc style of centerpin rod. In 1980 the most popular centerpin reel at the time would be a hardy silex. The silex supers or jewels were the most treasured. They can be picked up for a fairly reasonably price from the uk on eBay. I still fish a super made in the 30’s and...
The rocks and bedrock of the bottom has a thick coating of algae and growth. The felt soles tend to smear it off the rock as it grips to the felt Yet the rubber soles just slide right over and the spikes make an imperceptible scratch. I’ll have to take some pics next time I’m there.
I fish some rivers where when wearing only felt soles the rocks May as well be coated in grease. I’ve since switched to vibrant with carbide studs and they are the best things going. Those carbides just bite into everything. I guess that’s why rock drill bits have carbide inserts too. Also I...
I’m another fan of Berkeley big game solar in 30 or 40#. Cheap, stretches nice and straight after a fish and not too coily on a large arbour reel. I do treat it with kvd line and lure, it seems to lessen a lot of the tangles too.
Lots of good rods out there these days. I wouldn’t go much over 11’ for our west coast rivers. Rods from gloomis and blanks from bastion and nfc are my favourites.
One thing I don’t use is braid for it float fishing or on my centrepins. It’s mono all the way out here for most people. 12-20lb maxima ug or chameleon. But I use braid and leader for almost everything else on spinning and bait caster.
I fish in B.C. the birthplace of centerpin reels on this side of the Atlantic. 20 years ago it was all Hardy silex reels with a few Bryce and young, jw young. A few local bench made reels started to show up in the 60’s and then there was a resurgence of local reels starting up in the 80’s. We...
My mother always told me “good things come to those who wait”. I still remember the months waiting for things we ordered from the sears catalog.
If I needed a rod or blank tomorrow, north fork is not where I’d order from. But for next season I’ll put my order in early knowing I’ll get a good...
