One other note... The battery I'm monitoring on my trailer is inside a metal box. (Too big for a regular battery box.) I was worried that the Bluetooth wouldn't work with the thing sealed in the box with the battery, and some experimentation proved that to be so. Since it just has to be inline...

I have that very device on my travel trailer. Shows state of charge, charge remaining, amps currently being drawn (or charging), total amp hours used, as well as volts and a few other things. It replaces an earlier system that failed, so not a lot of time on this one yet, but it's great so far.

I have the Garmin Inreach Messenger. As other have pointed out, you can message directly on the device, but much easier to use the connected phone app. The deal with the predefined messages -- there actually are only 3 with the Messenger -- is that the subscription gives you an unlimited number...

I'm retired. If I need to get anywhere that fast, I just leave earlier.

It's the Harbor Freight Heavy Duty trailer. Was about $350 at the time, more now. The tires are 5.3 x 12, so limited to 55 mph, but where I go, that's fine. I have towed it to the Bighorn and back and couple of times (2000+ miles on the Interstate) at 60+ with no problems, though.

^^^ This ^^^ I put my Southfork on top of my truck cap for a few years, and it's way lighter than the CA Colorado. Finally bought the trailer and modded it to store all the motor, oars, and other accessories. Even if you just slap a piece of plywood on the bare trailer frame, it's the way to go.

I use 10 feet of 15 lb Amnesia, then 6 feet of 4x to a tippet ring, then 4x flouro to the top and dropper flies. Haven't broke off a fish (up to 24 or so inches) in years, although my buddy prefers 3x. Would never see a reason to go heavier than that.
