I would keep my options open until a week or two out and then drive to the waters which are fishing the best.

If you have the space, I haven’t found a better solution than the biggest Cliff box. Just a heads up, the MX airports almost always makes you check fishing gear on the way home, so I have ample space for way more gear than I would otherwise be taking.
