Boat + hike lakes in western WA?

Yeah if you go to Rattlesnake go early. Get there too late and the clueless jackasses use the boat ramp as a parking area. Your faith in humanity will be tested.

Very Memorable Experiences in your Life

Junior year of high school. It was a rainy day so our gym teacher kept us inside for a rousing game of basketball. As we were wrapping things up and headed to the locker room coach came over and put his hand on my shoulder “Son, basketball is not the sport for you” and he walked away offering...

    High Lakes

That’s the stripping apron for my float tube. It makes a nice rod protector. I dig the ultralight ethos, but I’m not quite there yet. I can still suffer a few extra pounds for comfort and convenience.

    What's Catching You Fish?

A shameless craft fur midnight disco leech with a tungsten head on a Ahrex barbless jig hook. I went 2 for 3 with it today. 👌🏻 Whew I needed that.

    High Lakes

My rig for a 10 mile high country ramble. Blustery and chilly today with brief showers passing through to keep things interesting.

    Caddis Nevada Opinions and Reviews

For the limited distances and usage you propose I think the Caddis will do you fine. If it doesn’t, well, yer only out $90. It’s a decent basic tube with no frills. Not even an inflatable seat. 9 lbs? They gained a couple lbs over the years. Don’t we all I suppose.

    High Lakes

I love all the high country tubers coming out of the shadows, a secretive lot normally. It’s good to see the ideas being shared.

Those little pumps are great. I find that they, well the one I have, don’t do the complete job. They may only get you 90% there. For topping off I use a mini hand pump. A foot long, weighs ounces, and works perfectly.

    High Lakes

Unless the trail is especially wide and devoid of trees hiking with an inflated tube is going to be a hassle. Climbing, descending, going over logs, yata yata all no fun with an inflated tube. Plus you risk damaging it. Get a light tube like the Wilderness Lite or Outcast Summit. +1 on the...

Taking Strangers Fishing, Yay or Nay?

I joined several folks for an extended backpacking (and fishing) trip once. In the months before leaving we ironed out all the details like where to meet, when, what to bring, and rough itineraries for those in the group. I planned on driving solo. The drive was several hours and I wanted to pit...

    SFR Superstitions?

It started as a tradition back in the day, when I was much younger, and all the food I needed for a fishing trip was a gas station sandwich and some little chocolate donuts. Since then it has evolved into a superstition. Gotta have those lil chocolate donuts, it throws my mojo off otherwise.

    NFR Owens Valley

Such beautiful country in that area. Many good times spent loading up on supplies in Lone Pine before heading to the high country to chase goldens or climb Whitney. I do miss it from time to time. No trip to the area is complete without visiting “the gorge”, small water, feisty browns and more...
