Yea I dig it! Haven’t done much with peaking caddis over the years but this is a cool pattern. Beyond the fact that it’s “peaking” you get a nice hot spot as well.
It’s funny, I was just on the vise a bit ago and was using partridge “scraps” to tie a caddis soft hackle variant…I’ll post pics...
I based it off this Orvis video I found

I typically don’t use SBS recipes any more. I prefer to just kind of “wing it”…..but this one is pretty much this pattern to a T….I've used it on the D with success. I...
Great stuff guys!
Here’s my version of a spent caddis. I don’t use dubbing wax for the head on these. I think I will do that next session.
Simple dubbed body. Zelon underwing. Partridge tips laid flat for over wing. Hares mask with guard hairs for thorax/head
I’m in caddis mode. I’m mostly interested in Caddis pupa/cripple/spent type patterns.
This is sort of my go-to deep pupa. Nothing special. Black tung/hares mask/flash and wire rib/cdc and partridge collar
I’ve been tying a partridge (no pics I guess) spent caddis I like quite a bit. I’m...
Agreed. My favorite place on earth is a wilderness lake that you cast terrestrial patterns at cruising browns, some over two feet long….the anticipation of take or rejection is too much!
Been using an MSR mini works for years and while it’s reliable, it’s heavy, at 14 oz….im interested in this conversation. Thinking about looking at the Sawyer stuff
The one thing I really like about the mini works though is you screw on a wide mouth Nalgene to it to fill. Works great
No. I lived in Carson City, so Reno/Tahoe area.
We used to fish the Carson River thru town on out Lahontan reservoir. It gets really low in the summer. Fish get spooky.
There’s lots of places down there to chase the golden bones.
I would try to determine if someone was actively hunting the area, and potentially using the blind. If so, wouldn’t use. If I was unsure, prob wouldn’t use until confirmed not being used….if not actively being used I say use away
