Years ago I was at Bonneville with my 6 wt. shadding with the crowd who kept their catch on stringers and a not bigly sturgeon was investigating the scene and ate my fly right at my feet and it was like catching a vw bus, I couldn't stop it and finally just pointed my rod straight out and locked...

Years ago I was obsessed with catching bonefish on Caye Caulker and nearby Cayes and I never had to pay to use a dock but I learned to always ask permission ... if you had put in the time and money to construct a pier in front of your house/hotel you would be rightfully territorial and pissed...
boy that's an ugly problem, paper thin and terminal rust... I fabricate and have a tig welder and live out by the hood canal bridge... it won't be pretty but we(as in you and I) could probably jury rig a temporary fix.
the water is public, you can wade/fish right in front of a resort or a house and they may glare but they don't own it, docks are private and I learned to always ask permission having seen people get chased off a dock by someone waving a machete.
Glad you enjoyed it.... I first went to Caye Caulker 50 some years ago and had 17 lobster meals in a row, lots of people forgot to wear their clothes down at the cut...
