Meadow Lake Fishing Camp, July 2026

Technically only 2 full day sessions for me, but I fished it every evening. This was the first time in four years that my dad fished any lake other than "Favorite" (half day on "Mountain"). He just takes his float tube for the days when all of the boats are taken.

Meadow Lake Fishing Camp, July 2026

Short Version (for those that just like photos): 5-1/2 days of hard fishing for wild rainbows (no triploids) in the Thompson-Nicola area of BC. 7 lakes fished. My boys and I brought 119 rainbows to net, 5 of them over 20", and kept 10 fish. Largest fish was 22" long, 13" girth, and weighed...

    Grayling in Fairbanks?

I haven't fished the Chena, but I have a friend in Fairbanks and he catches big grayling there all summer. I did fish a lot of grayling when I lived in AK. As far as flies go they aren't very selective. Small emergers and bead head nymphs work great...leeches also as long as they aren't too...

    Bamboo in BC

Looks like you had a successful trip. Beautiful location, beautiful fish, and great company! Glad to see you made it out to some new lakes. I'm tying up a few last flies before the annual pilgrimage up there on the 5th with my dad, my brother, and our boys...can't wait!

Boat + hike lakes in western WA?

A bit further than an hour for Tacoma, but a good fish and hike lake for future trips is Coldwater down by St. Helens...especially on a day when wind isn't too much.

    Just Another High Lakes Report

Not the high lakes, but I did catch 9 coastal cutts fishing with my dad and oldest son today on the South Sound. 7 types of trout in less than a week. I didn't catch Lake Trout, but they are in Eightmile. It will definitely take some planning, but I think getting all eight in high lakes is...

    Just Another High Lakes Report

I had a long weekend, so I took a few days off on the front end and headed to a favorite spot in the mountains with lots of lakes to choose from. Some are accessible by boat while others were hike in with float tube. Short Version for those that just like pictures: 7 lakes fished out of 9...

    Dry Falls Fishing Dried Up?

I fished it for the first time back in April. Caught 17 the first day and 8 the second. Only 1 brown and the biggest fish was a 20" rainbow. I don't have any "good old days" to compare it too, but I enjoyed my time on that lake.

    Furthest Travel to Fish

Costa Rica. I can't wait to do that again.

    Another Two Fly Question

I've never noticed issues with snagging due to a 2nd fly. My experience has been that a lot of the BC guys that haven't fished other places are very against two flies, but those that fish outside BC would love to bring the 2-fly option to BC. Alberta is the opposite of BC...you can only fish...

    Another Two Fly Question

None of the above for me. I tried tying to the hook bend for a few weeks once, but I noticed a big increase in the number of takedowns that didn't result in hookups. Option A (preferred): Leave an ~8" tag off of a surgeon's knot about 3-4' above my point fly...dropper gets tied to that...

    First Backpack Trip of 2026

The one I was doing well that day with was the “green eggs & ham” variation (bottom fly). I’m not sure it matters, but I always experiment with different colors…they all seem to catch fish…I prefer to use natural flies, but sometimes the attractors are the only thing that works. They also...

    Early Season BC Trip

I was planning on a backpacking trip this week, but when I saw the favorable weather on Hwy 24 in BC I decided to ditch the holiday weekend crowds here and head further north with my boat and float tube. I left early Wednesday morning and arrived at Lost Horse Lake Rec Site in the Meadow Lake...

Meadowlake Fish Camp in mid-late September

That will be just fine. You can get to camp no problem...you can even get to camp in a sedan now if you take it slow. There are some rougher roads to some of the outer lakes, but Rob and Tammy will give you pointers on how to get to the trailheads without risking damage to your vehicle and...

Meadowlake Fish Camp in mid-late September

September up there is great. Best thing about September is no mosquitos! Be prepared for unpredictable weather...dress for success and you'll be fine. I went up 14-18 September 2019 and 11-19 September 2021 (extra-long trip to "make-up" for COVID cancellations). 2019 was mostly rainy, but...
