I don’t remember there being closures like we see today before they combined the 2 state agencies. There wasn’t the outside groups influencing the departments then that there are now. I wonder what we would be seeing today if they hadn’t combined trout and salmon under one roof.

I spent 2 mornings fishing the stilly in the last week. One day above I -5 and one below. I saw 2 coho jack size below none above. Never saw anyone checking catch. Did anyone see anyone checking.

unfornunately unless you get get the absolute catch from each boat(retained, marked, unmarked, released) and a truthful response from each boat . There are a lot of variables to figure in your catch per unit effort.

Fish checkers dont have access to the docks blocked by locked gates in some marinas. I dont know how they calculate the catch from places like Edmonds which has a lot of small boats.

Seals and sea lions used to be considered vermin. I can remember watching the commercial fishermen in the early 60s in Willapa going out for a day of bounty hunting for them. I dont know if there is data on population numbers of those critters prior to and after the passing of the marine mammal...

In over 45yrs, of fishing the Reiter pond area, I have seen only "one" chinook caught. Someone had previously broken off the fish and a fellow angler had hooked the eye of the swivel on the leader. This closure not only affects the summer run fishery but also the in river coho too.
