    Nehalem River intel

Right, thanks. It'll just take some trial and error and having a back up river I'm willing to drive to. I saw the bump over the last couple days, was not planning to go out there this weekend due to that.

Need some clarification on the banana jinx

I've had the lingering taste of banana in my mouth while unhooking a nice fish.

    Nehalem River intel

Do you have a sense of how long following a blowout to wait, even if the gauge levels are right? Cause gauge levels can be where they need to be, but the river still looks like chocolate milk. I just don't happen to drive by it very often.

    Nehalem River intel

I know the gauge heights where the river is at a good level for winter steelheading. However, how can I tell if the clarity/turbidity is in shape before heading out? The USGS doesn't provide this. This river is a large drainage and clears very slowly, I understand that.. any help appreciated.

Watermaster Bruin - 2 person setup

I use a small 4x8 trailer just for a 40lb OSG Clearwater. No pumping, deflating, rolling, unrolling. No set up or teardown, no mess in the back of my Subaru.

    What's in your vise?

My first post here. I can't find these locally and the ones I found online are not good quality. I've been tying a lot of big skank flies for steelhead but wanted to change it up and thought this would be fun. Borden Special, size 6 salmon hook

    Starting with steelhead flies?

The first pattern was a hobo spey and the second was a green butt skunk. Both quite different with the hobo being on a shank and the skunk on traditional salmon hook. In both cases I watched a number of YouTube videos to get several perspectives, then just tried for myself. Neither one needs...

    Starting with steelhead flies?

You should have seen the first half dozen! And the rest of the pile that I plucked through to send those off. They'll catch a fish I'm sure, but it's still a long ways to go. Thanks for the kind words! I'm definitely enjoying the new adventure

    Starter Two-Handed set up?

I have both the echo TR and echo swing. My swing model is the shorter version, 11-7. Both great for the money. The TR has tons of power. The swing is lighter, but also shorter. I've never used the full length one. I think I prefer it most days, also cheaper by about $100 I think

    Starting with steelhead flies?

Currently none, looking into a vise and tools, then plan to get the materials for a couple patterns specifically and not much else in the beginning.

    Starting with steelhead flies?

Got it! I especially like 2 and 3. I'll buy some tubes to try them out and look into tying some as well. Thanks!

    Starting with steelhead flies?

Great post, I appreciate you taking the time on that! I've read a number of books which really upped my knowledge and lead to results. I've heard the advice to fish a floating line and even a skater more often, at least to get a feel for how the fly swings and interacts with movements, as you...

    Starting with steelhead flies?

What kind of weight are you adding? Is this split shot, or some kind of sliding lead? Something else? Also, the hook is tied directly to the leader, then run through the tube, and tied to the main line? What knot to the hook? Does it matter? Does the tube/fly slide up the leader ever? I guess...
