Went out recently to try to catch a new species to me. Fished a T-14 shooting head on a 8 wt with crawfish patterns drifted along the bottom. Didn’t take long to get the first grab. Decent fight. The pattern remained the same as we sporadically hooked fish in the lumpy water churned by west...

This one was a bit better. Wish I could have landed the two I saw swipe at the fly that were monsters.

I was in the general area you’re heading to and I was only focused on musky as my goal was to get my first one on the fly and we have amazing smallmouth fishing in WNY. I was tempted listening to how good the smallmouth fishing is and how trouty they can be (the amount of dragon and damselflies...

Yep, upper and lower Niagara, Niagara Bar on Lake Ontario (which is very ocean like), Lake Erie, and the lakes up to 13000 acres that are stocked with musky.

I’ve got a deposit down on a Lund 1875 Impact XS. Hopefully will be all rigged up and ready by the end of July. Ready for fall musky fishing on the big river and the musky lakes south of us.

Thanks for the catch. I fixed it as I highly, highly recommend Nick and Josh with Musky Fool. I hate that I made the mistake and my goof is out there on the internet. Major F up on my part. If you could edit out my mistake on your reply that would be much appreciated.

Booked a week of musky fishing in Wisconsin this past winter. Day 1 Great day on a beautiful river. Spent the first hour working on casting the larger flies and getting the figure 8 down. Landed my first pike, which was really cool even if it wasn't the green ghost I was after. Did have...

What boxes/systems do people like for storing big streamers?

Expensive, but if you're bringing the whole tool kit.

NFR TICKS - The Threat Grows

Yep, living on the East Coast ticks are the only creature I worry about when hiking and backpacking. I’m treating clothes with permethrin multiple times a summer.

    SFR Losing Interest

I agree with trying new species, etc... my main point was I'm not going to try new fisheries that require me to fish in ways I don't enjoy. For instance I'm not going to fish bobbers or troll. My preference is to streamer fish and I'd rather get skunked fishing in ways that bring me joy than...

    SFR Losing Interest

I've taken long breaks from fly fishing and it was great. Sometimes you need a break from something to appreciate it even more. As for people saying "change it up" I'm not sure I agree. As I've gotten older I've become more rigid in how I want to catch fish and I'm not going to fish...

    Show me your bass

Decided to brave the cold, drizzly weather to get after some spring smallmouth as they move into the creeks and rivers from the lakes. Not really the temperature you’re looking for on May 1st. Hiked down into the creeks and cast a bright clouser variation into the first deep run. Right in...

    Solo fishing

for water filtration I prefer a Katadyn BeFree filter that screws into almost any sized soft flask. Scoop and drink and packs small when not in use. Also fits perfectly in the water bottle pocket on most backpacks.

    Third time’s the charm

Kudos, one of those fisheries I always wanted to try since reading Shewey's book but never got around to.
