Wild and NATIVE trifecta on the big D

It was as lights out as I’ve seen it over there. The egg hatch has definitely turned on after a late start.

Gotta admit, best part was beating that guide/instructor to the riffle that he blocks all morning, and then pulling a couple out while they walked past

This guy reminded me that it’s still the season

yeah, I'd agree with the "best part"

Looks like a good trip to me.

Ah yes, the noble Northern Pike Minnow. I always think I've hooked a big fish until the fight suddenly dies and I realize it's a NPM.

It was many, many moons ago that Deke Meyer and myself found that the Deschutes redsides would park behind the spawning whitefish in November to chow down on their eggs. Whitefish eggs are very small but we found pom pom at a craft store that were the exact size. The color, for some reason would vary. Sometimes the trout liked pure red pom poms, other times, pink and once in awhile, white.

Not exactly your pure flyfishing for redsides on the D but we were having a ball with the whitefish egg patterns and didn't give a rip.
