Heavy BHGRHE for the bigger, heavier water. Sz. 8, 4.6mm, 8 turns .02wire. Summer is just a 3.3mm bead. 20221217_123142.jpg20221217_115608.jpg

Try that with the FNF. Works for me.
I have some for boobies & blobs, I'll give it a try. My granddaughter will be over later, I'll bet I can get her to play. I need to do some more w/ different bead sizes. That silly egg took has taken a few nice fish.

Much more involved than a fishing fly needs to be; this was more an exercise in cramming as much shit as I could on a hook while maintaining proper proportions. Wings/underwings tied in a more horizontal orientation than typical Sedgehog style; caribou works well here because it flares so easily, keeping thread wraps to a minimum, and provides the proper colors for the moth.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - SemperFli 8/0 tan
tag - Krystal Flash root beer/resin
tail - caribou
body - Starburst dubbing tan
underwing(s) - Congo Hair shiner tan
wing(s) - caribou
shoulder - bleached pheasant rump
collar/head - caribou

Scott

Maybe, but I'm not sure about that. Following your influence I've been more focused on little things like colored tags (been using semperfli perdigon body recently), thread color underbodies and even shades thereof, and building fur collars like an all fur nymph, then adding the soft hackle and a nice fur collar or hot spot up front. Sometimes even a muddled head. Colors within the fly and LAYERS of materials for look and movement. I do think it makes a more productive tie.

Darrell,

Cripplers were designed by Rob Denson as a subsurface pattern for fishing on U.K. stillwaters. Here’s a nice article from his site explaining their development and evolution.

Thank you for supplying the link. I backed out to the home page and started exploring. A really interesting site, added it to my bookmarks.
