Yes, I've tied it in before dubbing the body, like a soft hackle, and then one turn. Not sure where I saw that. I like the material movement, and the pine squirrel is the right color pallet for our streams. Really I'm just getting started tying and fishing streamers and such so I'm not really sure what I'm up to. I think the marabou muddler has been better than a regular, and these little jig streamers work to, hang up less, and seem to move well.
I could put it in a loop to make a collar, this one has about a 1/4 wrap undone, to the thread lock.

I have put rabbit and squirrel fur dubbing loops many times. It’s a little more work, but I think it makes a nicer fly. You also have better control over the amount of material used. I usually use less material and can achieve a fuller collar because the wraps are closer together. The slumpbuster fly is one of my favorites, simple and effective. Just my .02.

NOTE

It was in the Godbout River that Lucie Hallé used for the first time, and successfully, the three flies of her creation called the Cobbler's Trilogy. According to this Lévisienne who is a fan of fly fishing and a recognized mountain biker in the Quebec City area, these artificial ones have paid dividends to her in all the salmon rivers she has frequented. Lucie founded in 1984, with a dozen fly fishing enthusiasts, the Plume au Vent club.
