What's in your vise?

Sorry, but I would find casting that to a steelhead to be embarrassing when a well tied muddler would get the job done. Granted I am a dinosaur but to me steelhead flies shouldn't look like they need to be plugged in at night.
No steelhead in Montana that I know of, but this pattern was one of my best cutthroat flies last year. Obviously the ones I catch are not that picky but that’s probably because I fish water that doesn’t get a lot of traffic, which is kinda what I prefer. I’m an old fart, too, and being able to see my fly is pretty important to me; this should check that box off (haven’t tried this particular one yet but can’t wait to use it once runoff is over).
I love tying and fishing muddlers (I’ve posted about 300 on this site over the past 3 years) but I really love foam flies, too; life’s too short not to have fun doing what you like to do.

Regards,
Scott

Cool. I gotta take a break from painting the front door and hit a local pond to see if it works.

You and Zak got me onto muddler things and I am grateful. Great fly style.

Not too many around last weekend, think the winter scour and massive amount of cobble movement did a number on the bugs.

I’m convinced that you have more deer hair and more foam than any 10 other people here combined…I admire your ties…

cleaning out some old fly boxes, ran across some well used flies from when I was swinging for steelhead on the coastal rivers. I'd like to think they looked better back when they came off the vise..lol
