After a few I didn't leave enough room to muddle this one, so copying Scott I put a hot spot veil up front, kinda a march brown daddy softhackle. It's really not that bright an orange. Sz 12 1xl.

Think I'll stick to wets in the round, this sz 12 winged march brown is the best I got.

Playing with something for gray caddis. I know, no tail, but blue dun tail and hackle over muskrat, gold rib, grey squirrel wing, grizzly hackle up front.

I dislike doing the small stuff but I'd hate to be caught without on the day. Never my first choice to tie on.

Not sure why I keep doing martinez nymphs when the doc spratleys seem better.

Do you tie the Martinez nymphs with a hotspot?
No, I have not tried that, just plain. I found the ones tied round work better for me than ones with a green wing case also. Probably my tying skills, I have better luck with a bit less detail and being more impressionistic. I used to fish it as a stonefly, and still do on those rare occasions the fish just don't respond to the rubber legs like I think they should. It's a pretty good lake nymph when the heather or carey aren't so hot too, but I tend to use the doc more these days.

Thanks Norm! I’m going to tie some in small sizes to use as follow-up flies.
