I do not nor have eaten the fish I catch. Taken catch and release to heart long ago. Thought I would qualify what some might think was smart assery.
I mean, are you saying you consider bottom trawlers a righteous alternative to self-caught hook and line for consumption?
Do you eat any fish?
This “barely a chum fry”… chum fry pattern caught a good number of rezzies yesterday blitzing fry balls. A little back and forth via a group text with a couple of members here including @Kfish who I love to annoy with my very simple, shitty ties for SRC and coho

I know what’s running through Lou’s head when we fish together….. “how the fuck are his flies as effective as my beautiful, perfectly balanced, incredibly intricate ties”??? As much as I’d love to say it’s not the arrow, it’s the archer, the truth of it is most days, SRC and rezzies seem attack anything small enough for them to eat that happens to swim by them, my crap or his…ha. If we lived in a place where we fished for heavily pressured trout, keyed in on specific hatches, I’d probably buy flies from him at the risk of getting outfished 10-1.
Also tried a new ahrex shrimp hook for shrimp patterns. It performed well with SRC though the hooks run a little large. Next order, I’ll go down a size or two.

There are a lot of things I just can not afford after 7 years of retirement and the improbable expense of buying my fun then there is the body part failure tiny violin symphony that some older folks complain about.
Good advice I heard- “when the old guy knocks on your door, don’t let him in!”

Why would I say that? No i am not an active fisherman. My joints are effed enough, knees, back, casting shoulder. My truck is in need of repair to be street legal. Which i can not afford to do . My health care is health care but not for older people that a living with recent realizations that old injuries and maladies come back to haunt you.
No advice wanted. I am a couple steps from bailing here. Here is my unrequested advice-Save a shit ton of money for retirement!

Retirement 7 yrs in , retirement is wonderful. Joy is found in simple things I have always loved. The icing on the cake is getting back together with my life long love over my life since 1972.we both were married to others had kids divorced and found each other. So life is good. Because I have to make it so. It is a philosophy - maintain a good heart , help others. Based on what I learned were the important things in life.I write as therapy…So I will stop now. Probably for maybe 20 minutes

Snagging whitefish in the adipose fin, I’m so ashamed.
At least I salvaged an otherwise uneventful morning.

There is something to this. The weather quickly turned from clear and calm to cool and stormy, I put on the bow river bugger and started getting hits immediately after a couple hours of practically no action, after this whitey I foul hooked a decent sized brown that came off right before I got it in the net.I’ve snagged enough fish on or at the adipose to suspect it’s something they do to get rid of unwanted guests…like whack the fly with their tails to get it out of the area.
