What have you done for your boat lately?

Configured it to basic lake mode and made sure it actually floats.! 😁 First time having it in the water.
It's a 12'6" Saturn Triton that I traded straight across for my Striker. I wanted 3 seats and he wanted 2. Good trade for both of us.

I took advantage of the sun today so I could see how loading and unloading will be with this thing. I also wanted to get some of the geometry dialed in for lakes and swinging versus the normal setup (front seat lean bar and back swivel seat). I think I've got it close enough. Will obviously remove the front anchor for swinging. :)

It's definitely heavier than the Striker so more effort to load it in the back of my 4WD F150 w/ 6.5' bed, but not too bad. It will be a breeze with 2 guys.
No electronics for lake mode today. I'll dink around with that in the garage during the next crazy storm.

She's quicker than the Striker on the water despite being heavier. I'm excited to use it for my locals in 2026.

I added Boondox landing gear on my kayak. It's a bar that spans across, hard plastic backing plates below inside the hull and also on top. The legs are square shaped at the end and slide into their slots, deployed and up position. This way I don't have to tip the kayak over on it's side (which means taking out all of the gears on board) to put in the scupper cart wheels upon take out.

Here’s something I did for my boat 2 years ago that deserves some attention- poling/casting/sighting platform:

My Craigslist CC came to me without a poling platform. I wanted to build something cheap to help me decide if I should commit to getting a real poling platform fabricated ($$$).

Intention was to be used as a poling platform or casting platform, with stainless steel turnbuckles/cable anchored to hardware on rear deck for added stability while poling.

Build:

Poling mode:

Casting mode:

Slime mode:

Finished product ended up at: 33”x20” for platform surface, 20” overall height from deck. Total weight 19-20lbs. Materials are 1 1/4 schd 40 PVC, random 3/4” board, random white paint with walnut shell media mixed in for non-slip.

Learned a few things: I see a lot more fish with the added perspective of 20”; I rarely pole when fishing alone; I often fish alone. Ultimately I removed all the hardware and use it exclusively on the bow. I can operate the trolling motor while standing on the platform, but anymore I’m staked out in a likely spot and waiting for the fish to come to me.

Thought this could be helpful for capr hunters, or anyone else that’s wanting to spot fish for cheap.

I have thought about it, but my front platform seems adequate enough for most situations. It would be fun... I just would be afraid of dumping the person standing on it if and when I'm using the bow mount to get us around.

Yup, fair enough. I’ve yet to take a tumble, but I’m generally the one in control of the boat when I’m on the platform, so I can anticipate my boat’s movement and balance accordingly. That said, I step off if there is any chop/wake greater than a couple inches.

But… depending on the person Standing on it?

Yeah most the time, I have a guest, so it's a challenge. A lot of the spots I fish it's deep where we have the boat and we cast to the shallows. Only a spot or two where the pole comes out.

That said.... It'd still be a fun addition.

I think it could be helpful depending on the variables. Mine tucks away pretty nicely when not in use despite my boat having a center console layout. It could even be used as a stable bench/seat/workspace.

@MarshRat,

Hey. Nice work on the poling platform.

I see Turnbuckles in the Materials List. Are you attaching it via turnbuckle to the boat? Is that to make is safer ( no tipping )?

Yup, cable + turnbuckle attaches to pad eye on rear deck of boat when used as poling platform for complete stability

I think captain trays are pretty handy. NRS has one that I'm sure is totally bomber, but I didn't want to pay $70 for it.
Also, I think the edge/lip could be a bit more friendly. I could see myself banging my shin or knuckles on the thing. 😁

Enter Oklahoma Joe's BBQ tray. $12 on Amazon. I bought 2. Also bought some magnetic tape for $10. So 2 trays for $34 instead of one for $70. Not field tested yet, but I'm pretty happy about it!
