Tell ya what, Seeger Effect, let me know if you want me to hoof it down to Lenice before the opener - you know, to see if there's open water.
I always wonder about the first guy to get out on the ice and the last for the yearTell ya what, Seeger Effect, let me know if you want me to hoof it down to Lenice before the opener - you know, to see if there's open water.
All joking aside, two weeks ago my wife and I counted a couple dozen guys fishing Banks through the ice. Two days ago, only two people. We saw open water about two miles south of Steamboat Rock.......
Last of the year is the sketchiest time IMHO. Early in the year, if there was 4" of clear ice early-on we were comfortable walking on it.I always wonder about the first guy to get out on the ice and the last for the year

So much for the snow, huh! Does any of this affect the Yakima and its flow rate?View attachment 4288
Let it blow!
My wife and I enjoy walking along one of the lakes here in the Basin, today we thought we could hear the ice groaning; soft "whump, whump" like sounds. There's hardly any snow left on top of the ice but then there was absolutely zero open water. Soap Lake has had a bit of open water just out of town; today there were geese standing on the water that's above the ice at the "open" water place. Lenore has a small piece of open water at the south end (the area that's permanently closed to angling). Alkali, Blue and Park are frozen solid still (but we did hear the ice groaning (or moaning?).This melts ice right?

I pitched a rock out on the ice - slid a long distance.

Respectfully submitted

It's freezing (literally) every night. I'm half tempted to hike into our small lake tomorrow to see if the stream flow has opened up anything.I'm not convinced everything will be open by March 1st
Go for it. If I had to guess though I would still think several days. It's freezing (literally) every night. I'm half tempted to hike into our small lake tomorrow to see if the stream flow has opened up anything.
