Always enjoy seeing the pics of all the cool stuff you're catching over there @Mingo

Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Nick, my buddy Vinnie was ready to land a nice omilu on Wednesday when a big tiger shark came out of nowhere and devoured it. It circled us slowly several times and we decided that was our sign from King Neptune to call it a day and head for port.....

Mingo, could ya not post anymore pics of those nice Papio ( trevally) especially the blue fin ones. I have been trying to get them off the beach where we stay for 4-5 years now. Thinking I should ditch the fly rod and just bring a spinning rod. All I see on here and other island web sites is them being caught with spinning rod and plugs or jigs.

You have to use a fip flop fly.

Where have you been trying? Papio will usually smack a fly if they are in the area and hungry. I catch more of them on fly than anything else.

headed to Honolulu in a couple of weeks, this time solo, so I'll have plenty of time to fish. I'll hit the usual spots for bonefish on the fly, but I'm also tempted to bring a spinning rod for casting off the rocks. Does anybody have a recommendation for a reasonably priced travel rod? Or should I just throw a spinning reel on my travel ten weight?

Suggestions for lures and poppers would also be welcome. Thanks.

View attachment 49313me with a baby blue, my buddy with a very respectable spearfish. flattest possible ocean off Oahu.
Pfft, no need to get on a plane in WA state to catch short billed spearfish ;) . All joking aside, I'm still shaking my head over the one caught last year out of Westport. Even with all the weird stuff happening offshore in the PNW, that had to be a one-off.
