Hello everyone. Going to drive towards maupin on Friday to swing for Redband’s. I’ve never fished this area as I usually stick closer to home at Mecca. I know there is good access to the river both up and down from maupin. I’ve looked at google maps quite a bit and there looks to be some good runs. With that said, an aerial can be deceiving on the deschutes. We are only planning on the one day and thought some of you might be able to shave some driving and scouting for good trout Spey water for me. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

Honestly, this is about as easy as it gets for spotting where to hop out and fish. You will have no problem finding spots to fish from the locked gate way up top, all the way to below Maupin.

Only thing I would add to Evan's comment is to keep moving until you find fish.

what Evan and Phil said...easy access. spot water, fish water.

Right on. Thanks guys. I had planned on heading towards the gate. Didn’t know if below maupin was better.

It's all good. We all have our favorite spots developed over the years. You won't have a ton of other anglers out there either....some, but not a ton.

One of my favorite places on the planet! Good luck, there is lots of swing water. Embrace the adventure 😎

Damn, if this is true, upstream must be spectacular. I fish almost exclusively below Sherars and do quite well ;)
This ^^^^

I was going to focus on the softer edges for sure. Will report my success! 😉 Super stoked!
I’m exited for you! I was able to swing for steel last year before they closed it. I havnt been back since, I miss my solo camp trips there. I’m hoping I will get to do that this year, but it’s not looking good.
